You need to take it to a repair shop, you just can't put the lens back, it needs to be cleaned and aligned.

To my surprise, CD cleaner disc did it for me. It's a very old Philips one with a bit of furry stuff on the track side. I was amazed it even played, but it did and after letting it run for 20 secs, tried proper discs and it works fine. And this Pioneer PD-M603 is at least 15 years old!Looks like it would be hard to clean the lens manually because it's a long way inside.

I have a Pioneer PD-M550 6-Disc changer. When I try to play a disc, it won't spin... UNLESS I turn the unit upside-down. Then it plays just fine. So the lens is fine, but something is keeping it from...

Hi. You need to replace the opu (optical pickup unt), laser in other words. The laser diode is slowly getting weaker and the lens works in conjuntion with the laser. The reason it works when it's upside down is because gravity is pulling the lens closer to the disc, thus it does not need as much power to focus onto the tracks etched into the disc. Replace opu with type PEA1030 aka PU-23 http://www.donberg.co.uk/catalogue/laser_units_cd_dvd/laser_pu_23.html. Hope this helps you out and good luck.

Changer works but display reads no disc

the lens on the optical pickup is dirty and needs cleaning. they sell a lens cleaner disk at any electronics store. you also might want to blow any dust out of the unit with canned air to prevent it from happening again.

Dvd changer won't play

First have look around see if the discs caused any damage to any of the parts. However you need to be a little clearer on what happens when you attempt to play a disc. For instance does it read the disc? If not perhaps some dust got into the lens area and you might need to clean it.

I have a Pioneer PDM450. It will scan each of the

A dirty lens on the laser of the CD player or 6 dirty discs. Since it is not likely 6 dirty discs, you have nothing to loose by taking the screws off the back and sides to remove the top cover and try to find the lens. Get a can of "compressed air" and spray it all over the inside of the unit to romove dust bunnies as you work. Take digital photos as you go so you remember how to put it back together.

Good luck, have fun and look at all the neat gears and little motors this thing uses to open the door, close the door, spin the disc, ...

Its really amazing how many parts are in these things for the price they charge these days.

Alternatively, you can bring it in to a local electronics repair shop but it will likely cost you as much as a new unit.

pioneer cd players have the common problem of losing their laser lens due to the glue that holds it in place going brittle over time. try shaking the player from side to side and upside down to see if you can hear the lens rattling about. if you recover the lens, very carefully slot it back in place and apply a tiny drop of glue (NOT SUPERGLUE) to the outside edge of the lens taking care not to get any on the focus area and leave to dry. all should be well after this. i find UHU GLUE in the yellow tubes do a lasting fix but don't use SUPERGLUE as the fumes will coat the lens.

hope this helps?
