the changer plays through the fm on the radio, you need to find out what station it is tuned to. should be between 88 and 95 or so. you could just try seeking until the changer is picked up.

It relates to the failure of the loading section. So check on the linking wires/flexible strip to the load motor- this is a ccommon fault and is seen most of the time.
Secondly the tray with CD can get strck due to a faulty disc- being warped. if so manually retrieve and reset.
finally there is a tiny hole near to the eject which can reset the changer if this has hung up or is jammed.
Open the covers and probe.

many moons ago we were asked to do the same thing. back then stackers were all the rage. we found a unit called a simplex devider x12 made by asm china .as to weather they can still be sourced is not known as asm closed there doors long ago they converted most sony/kenwood/clarion/pioneer to each other but as to if you can get one now i dout it but that was how we did it

behind the removable fascia, there is a reset button, which you can push in using a pen

search for "pioneer DEH-1400" on google. there's a online .pdf manual on the pioneer website. if u have a specific question you should clarify what you need.
