Hi there! Normally, in this case, since the laptop just had a burning/burnt smell, it does suggest that something has been burnt inside it. It could be the motherboard itself or the processor.
If this laptop is still under warranty, you can try calling Toshiba Support line to have it taken care of. Normally, it will require for you to ship it over to their Depot, and from there they will be able to know which part/parts are bad and have it replaced.
Although, if this is NOT under warranty anymore, you will need to pay for the said hardware replacement.
Whichever way, I would strongly recommend for you to contact Toshiba so that they can give you options on how to fix your laptop.
Thx for the helpful advice.
i have a Toshiba a bit older about the same the cooling system is horrible almost scary the bottom part near the processor literally put burn marks into my wooden coffee table i keep it propped up now to encourage airflow [just something to keep in mind to prolong the life of your laptop]
