Have a 2010 Kenmore self cleaning oven that has been used for self cleaning 3 times a year. Clean it 2 times this year and no smell. Did a self clean 1st week of September and had a smell. 2 days ago (Sept. 24) cooked brownies and had a metallic smell. Called for service and was told it was just from previous self cleaning. Never had a smell in the previous 3 years. Can you tell me what is wrong?

Sounds like a thermal overload has opened up during clean. It may be mounted on the back.

SOURCE: How do I clean the inside of the door window of my self-cleaning oven?

umm. there will always be some assemblence of grease on the door glass, if its on the inner most panel and you can scrub it off, then i would reccomned using a razor blade lying flat to scrape it off, however if it has developed within the panel(s) of glass then the only remedy is to dissassmeble the door and glean them that way.. there was some conflict as to the age of your machine in your description, you say "3-hour cycle for the first use late last spring, if I remember correctly--whatever the directions said to do for the first time, a 4-hour cycle after Thanksgiving last fall and a 3-hour cycle for the second cleaning a couple of days ago since it wasn't very dirty"" so i cant be a mont old??? reason i say is that is the unit you purchased probably come with a pretty kickin warr and the manufacture will want ot make good on your issue if you cant resolve it, betterchance though if only 1 month not 11

SOURCE: Getting error code F10 on Kenmore model 47889603 wall oven

Leaving the breaker off for the time I was at work (about 9 hours) seems to have cleared the problem. May have just been an abberation and not an actual problem with the appliance. Since the first step with most electronics that develop a fault of some type is to power down for a while then power back up to reset the electronics, I decided to see if that would do it and it did. Thanks for having a site to go to for assistance, though!!!! -Mike-

Advise use of self clean feature on kenmore self clean oven 30''

If there is an up and down arrow on the control panel, you need to press the clean button first and then choose clean time with the up and down arrow. Be sure to remove the racks, if left in the oven they will be blackened by the extreme heat. Clean them separately with oven cleaner. Place them on newspaper and spray them.

Self clean for 4 hours -- do i need to leave my apt?

The first time you do a self clean it does smell weird and you do not need to do it for 4 hours change the setting to 2 or three hours. This uses allot of ellectricity to do the cleaning. I usually just use a oven clenaing product for light cleanup. If you have a pie that has spilled over or something then it works great. The Smell is a bit of ash and smoke from all the things that you are incinerating inside your oven.

Self-clean not cleaning

I was wrong (I think).  the baking element probably was burnt out as the repairman said.  He replaced it and I thought selfclean still wasn't working.  In fact, I think I just had to give the self-clean function more time.  Also, I was judging by smell.  We have become used to a bad odor during self clean which was missing when it was broken and still missing after the repair.  Bottom line, the oven was clean after the baking element was replaced, sans smell.

Self cleaning oven directions

Press the self-clean button.  The panel becomes blank(---), then press the up arrow( ^ ).  The panel will appear 3:00 (indication for the duration of self-cleaning). The oven will lock on its own and start the self-cleaning.  Good luck, ya'll!
