The drive or usb hub seems to have failed.
First try upgrading your mainboards BIOS. Usually solves software issues. If that doesn't solve the problem replace your drive and try again.
If you still get the same error, the drive controller is probably what has failed. In that case you have to replace your mainboard.

If you can only log into windows in safe mode and it takes forever to boot, you may need a new hard driver. Try running windows defrag first, but I think in the end you will need to replace the drive.
Most of the time, you will need a small philips screw driver and just open the hard drive bay and the drive slips you. You slip the new drive in and start the computer. You need to make sure that you have the windows restore CD and driver CD for your laptop. If you don't have them, contact your manufacture for help with it.

If you can boot it up, I would download and run the registry
utility from iobit.com

is freeware and works then run CHKDSK/F.
