The most common causes for this problem are:1. The carrage has come unhooked from the guide belt. 2. The guide belt has gotton dirty. On the back side of the carrage is a clear plastic strip with hard to see lines on it. If this has gotten dirty, it can be cleaned with q-tips and isopropyle alcohol. If it has come unhooked, just move it up and down a little in the back of the carriage, it will usually slip back into place.

Lexmark x83 carrier stall

Hello there.

I have checked lexmark's website on troubleshooting this problem for you.

As per the link here we need to try the following steps to resolve the problem.

Carrier stall" Error and the Carrier Slams in the Printer ID:ENUS12078 null.gif null.gif null.gif
If the printer carrier is slamming into the side of the printer, please try the following:
  1. Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
  2. Open the front cover of the printer where the cartridges are located.
  3. Look for two black bands that span from left to right (they should have one serrated side and one smooth side). Just above the black bands there is a transparent strip; this strip is called the Encoder strip.
  4. Flick this strip lightly with your finger to make sure that it is running smoothly from left to right. You may need to do this two or three times. CAUTION: Do not pull the strip!
  5. Close the front cover of the printer and reconnect the power supply.
  6. If the problem persists, you may need to contact Lexmark Technical Support.
Let us know how this goes and we can assist you futher, if the printer is damaged and is under a year old, lexmark may be able to repair or replace it for you.

Hope this helps.

Lexmark 5400 cartridge carrier slams up against back???? Won't stop!! It's a new printer, put in a high cap black and low cap color cartridge. Any ideas how to fix this?

Cartridges may not be seated properly. Remove all the cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Unplug the printer from the power source. Wait for about 10-15 seconds. Plug printer back to power source. If printer ink cartridge carrier still slams on the sides, encoder strip of the printer might be damaged. If it's still within warranty from where you bought it, have it replaced at that store. If ink cartridge carrier is not slamming to the sides, re-insert the cartridges. Make sure there are no obstructions along the carrier's path. Close the cover. Let the printer print the alignment page. If it's still going to slam the carrier, have it replaced.

Carrier Stall is the error

Hi,
Please do the following..

To check the cartridge carrier:
  1. Unplug the printer.
  2. Move the cartridges to the left by hand and then take them out.
  3. Try to print without the cartridges in the carrier. Do you still receive a Carrier Stall error message?
  4. If not, put the cartridges back into the carrier and snap them in at the back. The message should no longer appear.
If the power light on the printer is not blinking, the error message may be caused by a communication error. Do the following:
  1. Remove any other devices attached to the USB/LPT port.
  2. Uninstall the Lexmark printer.
  3. Connect the printer directly to the PC and ensure that power is being supplied to the printer.
  4. Reinstall the printer.
Thank you....
