I have a hp pavilion 420n i switched the cd burner drive and when i turned the pc back my dvd drive isnt reading any disk what does this mean how can i fix it

The simple way is to insert an empty disk and try burning the disk with some content. If it burns, that means you have a dvd burner fixed with ur device. Another way which is comparitively complicated is to check the device in the device manager. Right click on My Computer and click on Manage on that. You will get another window opened
In the left navigation pane, you will see device manager. click on that and see your DVD Drive status. If its given as DVD+ RW then you have dvd burner installed in ur system.

get a new DVD drive, up grade.

Multi-Layer support means the drive can Read/Write a Dual-Layer discs.

Lightscribe means you can create a label on a disk.

its becuse the write speed , choose the minimom speed 2x or 4x for write .u can change the speed at nero options

install the corect hp drivers and check the windows settings to make sure it is not sean as a cd drive instead of a dvd

Buy a new CD drive

-When the reading laser goes out on a CD drive, this is the error it gives. The motor to open and close still works, the computer just isn't able to read the CD.

Did you 'turn off' the AUTOPLAY feature of the CD\DVD ? When the player "runs two times at startup", it is trying to find the program on the disc.2nd- Look in internet for HP dv6000 cd\dvd drive replacement.(If that is the ""exact match for the product"" you wrote about)
3rd.goto CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER and look up cd\dvd and uninstall it. REBOOT, when your system comes back it will try to find the cd\dvd. If it does not, it is damaged (kaput!), must be replaced. If Windows finds the cd\dvd drive and reinstalls the drivers, but it does not work, then the heads are dirty or damaged.That Windows found the dvd\cd means that the circuit on the device works.

this is the 420N, not the 440N?  
is this an internal or external burner?

what operating system are you using?  on Windows XP, there's a good chance that you can just use the default drivers for that...

What wonnt work? does it read CD's?
