Question about TDK Indi DVD 420N (AID+420N) DVD+RW Burner

My drive will regognize and burn cds but when i try to watch or burn a dvd it says unkown or invalid its an hp dvd writer 420n

How do you burn DVDs? Using a specific software or Dragging files to the DVD writer?
If you are using a software like Nero, try recording at a lower speed (8X perhaps).
If you drag files, do this. 1) Right click your DVD writer and select Properties. 2) Click Recording tab. 3) There is a combo box to select recording speed. Usually it says 'Fastest'. Change it to, say, 8X, and click 'OK'.
Now try copying a DVD.

Install the corect hp drivers and check the windows settings to make sure it is not sean as a cd drive instead of a dvd

Your DVD drive is missing the Burning Program not the driver. I found an update for your windvd software for windows 7 but you probably have to have the full program installed to run the update. Hope this helps.

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

Usually, you need software to read an 'ISO' disk-image file, and to decode the file, and to burn to a CD/DVD,
e.g., "AShampoo Burning Edition 6" is a free download from http://www.MajorGeeks.com that will do the task.

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Classic View
Click System
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Select and expand the CD/DVD branch of the tree.
Double-click the CD/DVD drive.
Click Details to dislay the name/model of the device.

The LG 18x dvd writer does not read all dvds but only reads cds. i have tried to burn dvds but only burns cds.

Change your burning setting to dvd. Or is it really a dvd writer? Could it be only Dvd combo drive?

Or use higher version for your burning software that can burn dvd. I think Nero 8 or 9.

Can't burn pass over 78 min on my burner

CDs can only store 800 Mb, which is exactly 78 minutes. If you need to burn more data than that onto a disk then you will need to burn DVDs with a DVD burner.

Dvd writer does not burn on raw file system cds

What OS are you using? I doubt it is the burner. I have the same model burner and it burns everything I try to burn just fine. It works on both my XP SP2 installation and the OS X86 Leopard 10.5.5 installation. I have burned video, data and bootable OS DVDs and CDs in both operating systems.

It may just be Nero. You could try Alcohol 120% or Ultra ISO.

Try using nero to burn, be sure to select cd as the type of media... e.g Start > all programs >> nero >> data >> nero express .. Then
select cd, data cd,, drag some pics across and burn it.. If that dont work.. i hope u got warrenty... or if you wish to keep trying let me know

may be due buffer underrun... or may be u have inserted more data than the capacity of the cd... try burning less data once... if it doesnt works contact the repair person and get clean ur drive s lens
