Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

of a set that needs the fluid changed.

How do i watch a 3d movie on my 55"thorn tv?

the tv automaticly determines if it should go to 3D mode as long as the DVD player or say like PS3 or PS4 is connected to HDMI (yes those two game consoles will support HD Blueray 3D and DVD 3D movies) if the TV isnt displaying 3D look into the video settings of your TV to enable that ability also your TV will come with 3D glasses if the TV supports 3D

How to play a 3d movie on a normal HD screen.............

Unfortunately, there is no way you can do this without making some adjustments to either the movie clip or to your TV.
These adjustments could eventually end up in making the 3D movie more or less a normal HD movie.
The best way is to buy a 3D TV and glasses. This would help you watch the movie in 3D.

Does the Playstation 3 support 3D DVD"S. I just bought a Sony 3D capable tv and hooked everything up and the PS-3 says it doesn" support 3D format.

With the new 3.50 update that Sony released it unlocked the ability for the PS3 to play 3D blu rays. Are you sure you have updated to 3.50 as you will need to do this before playing any 3D blu rays. I am sure if you update to this version you will find everything will be fine.

Hope this helps

Everything looks like its in 3D vision. Im pretty sure somthing isnt alined right so i was wondering what i can do to fix it.

Replace convergence output ICs in your tv to fix this 3D look picture, it happens due to convergence output chips failure.
Local tv repairman will fix it for you if you have no prior experience of part replacement in tv circuit board with proper tools.

The TV is showing everything in a 3D kind of way. Everthing looks like a 3D proection, with only red and blue overlapping at some points.

Try to use a convergence function found in the menu. If that doesn't work clean the lenses with alcohol and q-tips. Good luck.

The pitchure looks like its 3d. everything looks

You have a convergece board failure. Changing one board will not nescessarily fix it. It is recommended to change all 3 boards in the unit. many try this as a DIY and fall afoul because it is a specialist job to retune and reset the paramaters. The cost then becomes greater than if a tech did it correctly the first time. Be advised it is not a simple DIY.It requires soldering and desoldering skills, specialised tools and a knowledge of circuit diagrams.
