PS3 laser Problem

60g PS3 will not play any blu ray dvd or games. Tried several movies and games with same result. Works fine with cd's and non blu ray movies. Just replaced the complete laser assembly and the PS3 still will not recognize any blu ray dvd or blu ray game. Looking to fix myself. PS3 is out of warranty. I do not want to send to Sony.

It sounds like you bought a defective laser or it is the chip on your "sister board". There is a chip on the circuit board thats on the bottom of the Blu-Ray drive and it has a silver rectangle on it. Some say that that chip is going bad on some machines. I have repaird 60+ PS3's this year and I haven't had this happen to me yet though. I would suggest trying another laser, then if that doesn't work try a "sister board" from the same model of PS3. I'm still not possitive if that is a possible solution though. The "sister board" is supposedly keyed to only work with the mother board it came with. Well, I hope this helps. Good luck!!

My ps3 will play ps3 games but not dvds. it loads the dvd then turns black. Any suggestions?

You can follow below steps to play DVDs on PS3.
Step 1: Insert Blu-ray disc into PS3's Blu-ray drive. Playing Blu-ray disc movie works exactly the same way as entering a game, except you need to head into the Video Tab in your PS3's home menu, rather than the Game Tab. Highlight the Blu-Ray and press X to start it immediately.
Step 2: Now the Blu-ray disc will load like a traditional DVD. Use your controller to access the menu, and use the D-Pad to select your option and press X to enter. When the media is playing, you can press triangle to open a mini-menu that will give you access to options such as subtitles, audio channels and volume. You can also access the main menu, using the arrow keys to navigate. Press triangle again to close this menu.

However, if you can't do it successfully, try to convert DVD to regular video and transfer to PS3.
Step 1: Download and install Leawo Blu-ray to PS3 Converter, and then launch it.

Step 2: Get source Blu-ray movies ready. Insert Blu-ray disc to the Blu-ray drive, or get source Blu-ray folders ready for loading and converting.
Step 3: Load Blu-ray sources
Click "Add Blu-ray/DVD" button on the program interface. This Blu-ray to PS3 converter would then guide you to browse source Blu-ray movies for loading.
Note: After loading source Blu-ray movies, you could select subtitles and audio tracks, play source Blu-ray movies, edit Blu-ray movies, snap screenshots, etc.
Step 4: Do output settings

Next to the "Add Blu-ray/DVD" button, click the dropdown box and select "Change". You will then arrive at the Profile setting panel to select output format from "Format" group or "Device" group. Select "MP4? from "Format" or directly choose "PS3? from "Device > Sony".

Optional settings: After you've set the output format, click the same dorp-down box and click "Edit" option and then you could adjust video and audio parameters of selected profile, including: video codec, audio codec, bit rate, aspect ratio, frame rate, channel, etc.
Step 5: Start converting Blu-ray to PS3

Back to the main program interface, click the green "Convert" button. You could then set an output directory on the right popup sidebar. After setting output dirctory, click the below convert button to let this Blu-ray to PS3 Ripper instantly start converting Blu-ray to PS3 videos.
Note: Internet connection is required during the whole conversion.
After you convert Blu-ray to PS3 friendlier videos, you can transfer the videos to PS3 and then start to play Blu-ray on PS3 in a indirect way. For details, you can read the extension part.

PS3 will play blu-rays just fine, but not DVD

A bad laser could affect the sound cause it can't read all the information from the disc. Try games as well and see if it does the same thing, sounds like a new drive is in order. There is one laser in those drives and require different strengths to read different discs. Also try a music disc that you know is good. If your still getting the same issue then get the drive replaced or just replace the laser if you have some technical knowledge.

My ps3 turns on and off ok, plays movies off the hard drive and will play ps3 games but has suddenly stopped playing movies ( dvd & blu ray ) it recognises the disc and goes to play it but the screen...

That is actually a poor conclusion. There are three different lasers, one for blu-ray, one DVD and one for CD games all in one holder inside. It certainly CAN be the laser. The description id the DVD/Blu-ray part is having focus problems. Contact Sony for a service center that can install a new drive (It needs to be calibrated on install)

My ps3 plays cds and movies, but doesn't play any games what is the problem? PLZ HELP!?!

You will need to replace the laser in the blu-ray drive. To help you understand what is wrong the blu-ray laser works off of 3 wavelengths. One is for CD, one for DVD, and one for Blu-ray games or movies. When they start to wear out they will stop playing games and sometimes they will play some games sometimes none. Since they do have different wavelengths and different nodes on the diode it is possible to have a laser that will play CD's and DVD's but not blu-ray.

So basically you need a new laser. You can do that by going on eBay and purchasing a new laser. I also offer laser replacement for 100 dollars parts and labor. My email is [email protected] if you are interested.

Thanks,
Ced

Ps3 60G What error can be when you take movies but not games

The blu-ray portion of your laser went out. There are three parts ( cd / dvd / blu-ray) You can still play movies because that part of the laser is still working.

Blu ray not playing on ps3

Could be an overheating issue.. Is there enough air circulation around the unit? Is it possibly dusty? try and perform minor servicing (use a can of compressed air incase if there's dust causing problems)

Does this happen on regular dvd's ?
