Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

To answer your question in a word, Yes.

This is what you should see inside the tub to pump bellows, it's a back flow valve.

Is there suppose to be - macmarkus_229.jpg
( maybe even the "gunk" included...should be cleaned out if present...run the washer on a hot cycle with some citrus based crystals/white vinegar or a product called "affresh" as shown below or remove it and clean it out thoroughly by hand )

The is a small tube that attaches your chem tank to the pump...detach the tube from your pump and remove the nipple from your pump. There is supposed to be a ball and spring inside that nipple. This is a check valve for your chemicals...it isnt working. Alot of times people take them of the try and fix something and lose the ball and spring so be careful. More than likely your spring is broken and just needs to be replaced. Good luck

What function does the golfball size plastic ball in the rubber drain hose between the wash drum and pump serve. Will the machine operate effectively if it is removed ?

If that ball is in that location I would assume its being used as a means of back flow prevention to prevent dirty water from backing up into your drum. You can try removing it and see what happens, but the things you need to consider are, 1. Does the ball have a hole through it. If so, its not a means of back flow prevention and definitely needs to stay in there. And does the ball move freely back and forth in the tube because the machine may also be using it as some means of pressure regulation. Either way I wouldn't recommend taking it out unless its harming something because the manufacturer put it there for a reason.

Something rattling under the drum

Strangely enough, I found the problem to be in the motor. If the noise becomes pronounced during the high speed spin cycle, then that is the problem. I had a repairman out for mine and they wanted to replace the drum, however when I took off the back and removed the belt, I could turn the drum separate from the motor and could hear that the problem was in the motor bearing, not the drum. Hope this helps.
