I get connection when hooked to the modem only, but when I hook to the router I get no connection, please help!
Is the modem plugged into the special port on the router?
Reset your modem and see if it will pick it up then.
What lights are on your router when you plug the modem in?
Is the modem store bought or is it something your provider gave you to rent?
I didn't know they had a battery backup in those things.
Thanks for the info.

My modem is plugged into the correct port on the router.
Have done that at least a dozen times. I have reset router, modem and even restarted the computer, none of the above have worked.
The power light, the wlan light, the internet light and the #1 to show my computer is plugged in there. I know it should be working, I have done all I am supposed to do, but for some reason it doesn't like me and still won't work. :(
Found the problem. The modem had a battery back-up that wasn't allowing it to reset and hence causing my problem. When I removed the battery and did the full reset all was working well, thanks for your suggestions. Hope this will help someone else possibly. Would have been nice if the cable company would have told me it had a battery back-up, but not once did they say anything about it!
