Can hook through modem but not router

I get connection when hooked to the modem only, but when I hook to the router I get no connection, please help!

My modem is plugged into the correct port on the router.

  • appleapps Jul 06, 2008

Have done that at least a dozen times. I have reset router, modem and even restarted the computer, none of the above have worked.

  • appleapps Jul 06, 2008

The power light, the wlan light, the internet light and the #1 to show my computer is plugged in there. I know it should be working, I have done all I am supposed to do, but for some reason it doesn't like me and still won't work. :(

  • appleapps Jul 07, 2008

Found the problem. The modem had a battery back-up that wasn't allowing it to reset and hence causing my problem. When I removed the battery and did the full reset all was working well, thanks for your suggestions. Hope this will help someone else possibly. Would have been nice if the cable company would have told me it had a battery back-up, but not once did they say anything about it!

I need help hooking up the router , i need the diagram showing how to hook it up to modem and vontage modem please help me

This router has ports in the back which are marked and also of different color.
Here is how to connect everything.
Make sure everything is Powered Off.
The cable from the wall goes into the modem, this is usually either a Coaxal or a phone (DSL) cable, the color of the jack on the modem should be green
Then there will either be 1 or 4 Yellow color jacks on the back of the modem, use one of htese to connect to the WAN link port on the router. there may be 1 or 4 LAN ports on the router, plug the Vonage Device into one of these LAN ports, power all the devices and start with the one closest to the wall.
So>
Modem first
Router next
Vonage device last

How i can setup Wifi to Thomson (DCM305R) modem?

Hello, Thanks for the opportunity to help you.

First off you modem there is not wifi but cant be hooked up to a wifi router that you can purchase from any computer store.

The modem would hook up to the router directly instead of hooking to the computer via RJ45 "ethernet cable"

The wifi router would then share that connection. You would need to set that up with some security I recommend WPA 2 encryption you will need to select a password/ or pass phrase.

In order for me to give you the How To's we would need some more information such as:

1. Brand name of router
2. Model number

Click here for some basic information on how to hook up a cable modem to a wifi router.

Thanks for using Fixya.com , We hope your found this Very Helpful.

Just connected router to clear network modem and VoIP (wireless phone service), now when the phone ring, it disconnects me from the internet and the connection is lost until the phone call is complete.

Is your modem a DSL or cable modem?
If it is a DSL modem do you have a DSL filter on each phone line to the phones in your house?
The DSL modem does not need a DSL filter on the phone line.

Hooked up arris modem with lynksys G series router

You have to set seting from routers menu. To use it hold 15 second router restart button, that restore factory setings, then go browser http://192.168.1.1/ , and use username "admin" and password "admin" in default. There you can set setting by your connection.

Trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.
