Brother GX 36750 - I replaced the ribbon, re-installed the daisy wheel, reset the pitch, pushed CODE RESET, but the letters I type are not matching what is printed on the paper. I press 't' and it types 'd'. Help?

When you turn on the machine (or press [Code]+[Reset}) the print head moves to the right side, the print wheel spins, and the ribbon jumps up and down, that is the machine resetting its self.

If a reset does not work the reset tab may be out of alignment. I would

  1. Power it off and then turn it back on and test to again.
  2. If it's still typing the wrong or unreadable letters then turn off the power, open the lid. On the bottom of the case there is a metal frame on the right side of the frame you will see a small metal tab pointing towards the middle of the machine. When the machine resets its self, it uses that tab as a reference.
  3. That tab is easily bent which causes the reset to be wrong. Most people can bend it by hand, DON'T use a pliers! The tab can break off completely. It does not take much pressure and it does not need to be moved very far at all. Just nudge it towards the back (or the front) power up and test it. It might take a couple of tries to either direction to get it right. Be ready to turn off the power if when the print head resets. If you bent the tab too far the tab will not enter the print head correctly.

This reset tab most often gets out of alignment by a child playing with the machine, but if a foreign object is in the machine when the print head is moving.

Letters don't show on paper no imprint on ribbon. keys sound like they are typing but nothing shows on paper

Chances are that the print head is not locked forward. This happens when the daisy wheel or either of the ribbons are replaced. Just push it forward until it clicks

When you type, each character you strike actually types another letter.

first try turn typewriter off, (button on left panel toward the back), then turn it back on, and while hold down the CODE button, press RESET key, the whole print head will move and reset

if that doesn't work, power off again, open the cover, release the lever to the Daisy Wheel, and inspect that Daisy Wheel - mine has a bent forward letter, and another letter was kinda stuck to the side of another letter... I gently fix both letters, put the Daisy Wheel back in, firmly lock it in place with the lever, close the cover... and voila, it works like a charm.

While you have it open you might want to dust (use the cleaning spray can duster)... You wouldn't believe what I found in my typewriter... Good luck!

If that doesn't work, I would replace the Daisy Wheel.

When typing with my brother gx-6750 it types weird lingo is the type set messed up or can I reset them?

Your daisy wheel letters are bended not straight.

Switchoff just remove your daisy wheel & remove the daisy wheel from its cover & see all the letters should be straight. If any of them is bended jst make them straight by your fingers dont press too hard & then fix the daisy wheel back & switch on typewriter.

Not typing the correct letters

The ML-300 needs to be reset each time the Daisy Wheel is removed or replaced or if the Keyboard Switch changes position. According to Brother, if this is not done the typewriter will print incorrect characters. Try these steps: 1) Open the Top Cover. There is a lever directly behind the Daisy Wheel. Pull the lever back towards you. Remove the Daisy Wheel by pulling it up and out. 2) Verify that it is the Standard Daisy Wheel that came with your machine and not a Symbol or International Daisey Wheel. Write down the Pitch (10, 12, or dual pitch 1012) printed on the wheel. 3) Reinstall the Daisy Wheel (the plastic top ear goes to your right.) Push the lever (step 1) forward. 4) Press the ALT key plus the PITCH key and the number 1 key simultaneously. Verify the Pitch setting is the same as is printed on the Daisy Wheel. 5) Press the CODE key plus the RESET key and the letter Q key simultaneously. This will reset the typewriter mechanism and align (or time, in technical terms) the carriage mechanism. Check if the typewriter prints correctly now. If still incorrect, perform these additional steps. 6) Verify the three position Keyboard Switch (inside the top cover, on the right side, at the bottom) is in the I=Standard position. The other positions are: II=International and III=Symbol. 7) If the Keyboard Switch is in the correct position, slide it to position III and then back to I. (This will clean the switch contacts in case they are dirty and not making good electrical contact. 8) Press the CODE key plus the RESET key and the letter Q key combination again to reset the typewriter mechanism. Check if the typewriter prints correctly now. If still incorrect, the only other things I can think of is that: 1) an incorrect Daisy Wheel is installed that does not work in the ML-300. Brother sell a "B type" Daisy Wheel with two plastic ridges/raised slots below the center of the Daisy Wheel (viewed with the raised top tab on your left.) The B type are incompatible with your machine. 2) the typewriter has failed and needs repair.

Cannot type letters.

Your T/W neads a new keyboard membrane, you cannot clean this type membrane so you will have to replace it.
