If it displayes a yellow light then turns off immediately, changing to a red flashing light then your PS3 has suffered hardware failure (affectionately known as the yellow light of death) and requires repair or replacement. This is caused by overheating. The repair for this problem is only ever temporary. It's a really common issue in the early PS3s. Sell your dead PS3 to fund a new one!
In order to fix your PS3 yellow light error, there are 3 things that you can do.
1 - Restart your Playstation 3.
2 - Check for loose cables.
3 - Unplug all cables, and plug them back in.
4 - Take out your hard-drive, and place it back in your console.
