Not sure if you are speaking of a vacuum or steam cleaner or ?
If it is a vacuum, sounds like the beater brush is freezing up. Follow the directions to replace the drive belt. When you get the beater brush off the unit, clean it as best you can. Add a bit of WD40 between the ends of the beater brush and the hard rubber pieces that hold it in place. Before reassembling, turn the brush while holding the pieces one at a time to be sure the beater brush turns freely. When you reassemble, be sure the belt is properly installed.
If you find this solution to be helpful, I would appreciate an appropriate Thumbs Up rating from you.
Be well, Paul

My DC59 Dyson power head stopped working

Your question certainly would be easier to answer with more details. If by "stopped working" you mean the beater brush doesn't turn, check for hair and debris buildup or a bad electrical connection in the electrical plug between the main down tube and power head.. If by "stopped working" you mean the fan in the top unit is moving air and the beater brush is turning, but little or nothing is getting picked up, take the power head off of the main tube. move the elbow joint so that the corrugated hose is straight. Use a straightened coat hanger wire or 1/4" wooden dowel to push through the corrugated hose. If there is a blockage, clear it out and the vacuum will begin picking up dirt again.

My wife has the same issue. A lot of vacuums have very small motors. These can't be buried into the carpet. The brushed are mentioned to skim the tops of the carpet . Try readjusting the carpet hight on the brush head.

My Power head on my Dyson Animal DC39 will not stay spinning. Suction Issue?

There should be a red insert on the right-hand side on the cylindrical bulge behind the brush cylinder. Check that this is moving when you push the button. The red insert should stay pushed in for the brush to rotate. The insert moves in an out as well as rotates in order to lock in the 'in' position. Mine is a little sticky on the rotation and I need to shake the brush head a little in order to get it to rotate and lock.

One thing you might want to try is to see if the brush itself is binding up at the ends. When dirt gets in the end pieces and makes the brush difficult to spin, it will slow down, add to that the contact with the carpet and it may slow down even more. Give the brush and axle a good cleaning to see if it works better. Add a bit of WD40 to the ends of the brush axle.
