According to NEC technical support, if the status light flashes red six times, this could indicate a defective lamp.
If a new lamp is installed and the project still won't turn on, the projector will
need service.
there should be a status for the lamp light; check to see if this one turns red. If it does count the consecutive blinks if it is 6 then replace the lamp
Sounds like you lamp ballast has gone bad. I good way to verify this is, when you press power on the projector look inside the lens. If you see a small amount of light, then the ballast is good, and the lamp is bad. If there is no light then chances are the ballast is bad.
both lights flashing green indicate the projector lost power while it was running (didn't get to go through shutdown procedure). if the status light blinks 6 times, the lamp is failing to strike (one time means the cover is open, 2 times is a temperature issue, and 4 times is the fan). if it comes on and shuts off a short time later (less than 15 seconds), the ballast is going bad and needs replacing. if it didn't come on at all, it'd be either the ballast or the colorwheel. if the lamp light was red, it would be the lamp that needs replacing. nec won't sell parts to anyone who is not an authorized nec service center, so you'd need to contact one to get the part (although they may not sell it to you). but good luck!
if the status light is flashing .5 seconds on and 2.5 seconds off - you need to replace the lamp cover correctly.
if the status light is flashing .5 seconds on and .5 seconds off in 2 - 6 cycles the error is:
2 cycles - the projector is overheated. Move the projector to a cooler location, or/and remove dust in the light path.
3 cycles - the power unit is not working correctly.
4 cycles - the fans are not working correctly
5 cycles - lamp fails to light. Wait a full minute and then turn on again.
Replacing the lamp with an old one was helpful for me. Good news: the projector itself not faulty. Bad news: I have two projectors with the same issue at the same time (the lamps were replaced also at the same time) after only 400 hours of running.
From the manual: To reset the lamp hold down the "HELP" button on the remote for 10 sec and the lamp indicator will turn off. Then start up the projector again.
If it is a lamp error try this: When the lamp exceeds 2100 hoursof service, the projector cannot turn on and the manu is not displayed. Do the following: For VT670/VT470 Press the help button on the remote control for a minimum of ten seconds. For VT570/VT47 Press and hold the power and the exit buttons on the remote control simultaneously for a minimum of ten seconds. When the lamp time clock is reset to zero, the lamp indicator goes out. Hope this helps! :]
