This is correct, the PS3 will only play games and movies from its home region. Note I have some anime that is multi region disks that will not play in my PS3.

Region code usa will not play in my dvd player on my laptop it is a toshiba satellite laptop i cannot find where to change the region code

To change your Region Code click Start- Computer - right click DVD Drive - Properties - Hardware Tab - Click on the DVD Drive on the list of hardware then click on Properties button - click on DVD Region Tab - choose your country then click ok button - click apply button then ok on the previous window - restart computer.

Note: Region Codes can only be change up to 5 times.

Here's the list of Region codes and its respective countries.

Region code and Area
0 Informal term meaning "worldwide". Region 0 is not an official setting; discs that bear the region 0 symbol either have no flag set or have region 1–6 flags set.
1 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Bermuda
2 Europe (except Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus), Middle East, Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, French overseas territories, Greenland
3 Southeast Asia, South Korea, Republic of China (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Macau
4 Mexico, Central and South America, Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Oceania
5 Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Africa (except Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, and French overseas territories), Central and South Asia, Mongolia, North Korea
6 People's Republic of China, Hong Kong
7 Reserved for future use (found in use on protected screener copies of MPAA-related DVDs and "media copies" of pre-releases in Asia)
8 International venues such as aircraft, cruise ships, etc.
ALL Region ALL discs have all 8 flags set, allowing the disc to be played in any locale on any player.

Can't pair it with controller. I bought a white ps3 controller from hong kong. it will turn the system on but thats it, no buttons work. At first I thought it was because the controller was from overseas,...

if the ps3 reads ps2 games then it's a 60 gig,and has 4 usb ports rather than 2...if the controller works on a buddies machine and the machine freezes,it probly needs a service.

I live in Hong Kong and need to play cd's from all regions

1) Remove disk (if any) from the player
2) Turn the player off
3) Turn the player on
4) Open tray
5) On remote press 9-7-3-5
6) A box should appear on the screen with a region number inside (1
for players sold in USA)
7) Use Up and Down arrow keys on the remote to select desired region
(0 means region free)
8) Press Enter on the remote. Tray should close.
9) Enjoy

I have a Samsung HT BD2 region 4, I go many region 1, they wont play, how can I make it play?

To unlock the DVD code its defends upon what region you belongs or from were you bought the DVD unit. Just click this site to hack the region code ; http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks

To keep it simple, this means that DVD players and DVDs are labeled for operation on within a specific geographical region in the world. For example, the U.S. is in region 1. This means that all DVD players sold in the U.S. are made to region 1 specifications. As a result, region 1 players can only play region 1 discs. That's right, the DVDs themselves are encoded for a specific region. On the back of each DVD package, you will a find a region number (1 thru 6).
The geographical regions are as follows:
REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.

The end result is that DVDs encoded for regions other than Region 1 cannot be played on a region 1 DVD player, also, players marketed for other regions cannot play region 1-stamped DVDs

Hope it may help you;

Playing uk dvd's on region 3 PS3

No you can't. At this time it's not possible. You could always make the discs you bought region free by copying them with dvdshrink or another program but as of now there is no hack for the PS3 and probably won't be one for another year.

You could try dual booting the ps3 with linux, but it's probably not worth all the effort.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best of luck!

MY japoneese ps3

The pal ps2 games and dvds will not play on a Japanese ps3 due to region coding. You can play all ps3 games and blu ray films because they do not use region coding. Some games will also play differently on a ps3, for example, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (I highly recommend the game) will not have any blood on a Japanese ps3. The region coding feature can not be changed/modified. I would recommend returning Japanese ps3 and purchasing a European model instead if that is possible. Bon chance.
