When Misubishi VS60609 (9 years old) television is turned on, the picture does not appear. After 2-3 minutes the picture then appears, stays on for aprox 30 secs to 1 minute, only to go away again. This continues to occur, with the picture staying on for a longer time at each interval, for aproximately 15 minutes. Then the picture comes on and stays on.
Hey candcc, are you looking to repair the TV yourself or just get an idea of what circuit is involved? The problem seems to be in the deflection circuit(the board mounted horizontally to the right as you take the back cover off. This board also has some switching mode power supplies that feed the signal processing and convergence boards. As far as the components, it's hard to tell you exactly what components are involved, because there could be a combination of them. This circuit is notorious for the amount of leaky e. caps and more than likely this is what you'll be running into on this TV. Visually inspect the circuit for bulgged caps and signs of leaky caps, I am sure you'll find a good number of them. If you need service info there several sites that can help you with this model, but if you have trouble finding one try eserviceinfo.com you'll find something there for sure. Take the bigger e. caps out of the circuit and test them for value, you'll find some of them already off value, the caps in the middle of the board. It's all I can suggest, good lucl
Thanks for replying.
I am very "handy". Remodel homes, and build classic cars for a living.
Is it possible to repair this problem myself???? Is there a manual of repair that I could consult???
Also, should these "caps" be bulging or leaking:
1. How do I go about thesting them for "fair value" and what is "fair value".
2. Where would I find replacements????
Most TV repair shops seem to be quite propriatary regarding their knowledge and/or replacement parts. Often thought that's why they can charge such "extraordiary prices". Most of us are at their mercy.
Thanks for your help.
candcc, sorry it took awhile for me to answer but I had computer problems, I am considering that you do not have a whole lot of knowledge on the electronics repair, so your best bet would be to locate the deflection board number usually located in the edges of the assembly or the middle. It's a number that will start with 935B or 930B any number that starts with a 9 could be the part number. The most common failure are the electrolytic capacitors that begin to leak, and sometimes the chemical will create all sorts of problems, If you are familiar with electrolytic capacitors you know that they are in shape of a small can wrapped with plastic insulation either black or blue. Most of them are uncovered from the top, and this is the side where some of them will bulge, but others will look inflated from the sides. You want to make sure this is the circuit that needs replacement and finding some of these trouble areas will help in determining if this is the board involved.
There are some companies that rebuild these board and here are their names: PTS electronics corporation and TriState Module Inc. Good Luck
