I am "new" to the "computer" world and I can't get my scanner to work with my pc.The printer and copier works great.Would you please give me "simple" step by step instructions so that I can scan photos to my pc?

I can explain some hardware stuff to you and will give you a link where you can download the paperport software manual. It will guide you much better on howto do a scanning:
plz check the usb cable at first. Is it connected directly to the PC or is it connected to a hub (a small box which is apart from the pc and you can connect a camera etc., too).
Make sure the printer is connected straight to the pc usbport. Do not use a usb cable longer than 3m.
When done so, restart the pc.
Did you install the whole mfl-pro suite software that was given to you by brother? If yes, you should start the paperport software.
If not, you can scan into some other program that allows scanning (e.g. ms office).
The paperport manual is part of the installation cd.

hi my name is scott, what works for me? i shutdown my computer then mthe scanner works sometime that happens on printing, if your scanner is not scanning, but telling to re-aline the lines in scanning, just shutdown the computer.
How are you doing? In order for scanner to work in all multi-functional printers, you must install all functions. While installing printer Sharp Ar165m, it will ask you if you need to install scanner and you must select that box otherwise it will install printer alone. Also there is an option where you are to configure the button keys on scanner function, please configure the buttons while installing. This will allow you to press scanner key on the copier to start scanning without necessarily selecting from the computer otherwise --- will appear and nothing happens. So insert the software CD and remember to select scanning option.
Basically, you can use the scanner in two ways. Please open the scanner cover and place the document or image you want to scan face down.
1. Press the SCAN button (color button = color scanning, black button = monochrome scanning). then your scanner will scan the document or image in the scanner tray.
2. Go to the scanner program installed in your computer when you installed the printer. Open it and then click the command button SCAN.
Note: Make sure that you installed the Scanner software when you installed the printer. Without the software, your scanner will not work. Please reinstall the printer including the scanner software.
First you have to load the scanner (twain driver). Then load the scanning software. Then plug the printer/scanner into the usb port on the pc. The pc should then recognize the scanner. You might have to turn your pc off then on again to recognize the scanner. Then try to open the scanning software on your pc and put the document on the scanning glass and press the aquire/scan button on the software. Hopefully, that should work.

Try this it has worked for me. Go to hp.com/uk/diagnostics from here you can do a check on your printer to see if it is compatible etc as i found out that the scan button on the hp1210 is the problem. There are instructions after you do the check to either try the scanning with windows fax and scanning or for me it worked with scanning with paint. good luck !
