My sub zero 642 just started making a loud humming sound in the freezer. When the door opens it stops, what could be causing this?

I know this sounds so stupid but I see this sort of thing at least once a week it's vibrating on cab. Or the main thing is a bolt came loss and when you open the door it aplies weight down and it will make the bolt or nut vibrate being a sub zero it could be the compresser on top or the trim or the cabinet virating on back of shell. Hope this helps

It is your evaporator fan. When the door opens power is cut to the fan motor.

MY FREEZER COMPRESSER ON SUB ZERO SIDE BY SIDE STARTS AND RUNS FOR 3 SECONDS THEN STOPS. IT WILL NOT CONTINUE TO RUN. FRIDGE IS OK.

This sounds like the start winding is trying, and the run winding is not. Check all capacitors. Check to make sure the wires are solidly on the compressor. Check the klixon switch, it should have continuity.

LCD panel and lights not working

On your Sub-Zero 642 Your display will not work unless your refrigerator lights work.
1st. Make sure your light bulbs are good.
2nd. Check your refrigerator door light switch.
3rd. The subzero uses a thermal overload to kill your lights if the door is left open to long.

Cannot reopen Sub-Zero 642 freezer door for 50 seconds

Yes, this is normal.  My 642 does the same thing. It seals to be more efficient while trying to cool back down after it has lost heat while open.

Loud humming noise as fridge is running

Sounds like the freezer fan is rubbing some wires or possible some foam insulation around the fan. I would look into the freezer compartment fan and go from there. The fan Will Shut off when you open the doors. Let me know how you make out and if you need anymore help.

Thanks,
Bill
