Whirlpool LSR8233E..2 problems..you have to slam the lid down to get it to continue the cycle, what's wrong? Also, the upper agitator doesn't seem to move as much, and clothes just kind of sit there. Will repairs cost so much that it's better to buy a new machine??? Many thanks in advance

first question is this a top loader if it is as to the agitator not spinning as much the part costs maybe 5-9 dollars and the part is called agitator dogs.as to your first question you might want to replace the lid switch should cost maybe 29.00 the most if your able to do this job yourself you would save alot labor alone on this job is where most technicians make there money you can look up marcone and they will not only be able to order you the part but they will also be able to send it to your location

My washing machine fills up with water but does not continue the wash cycle. Sometimes when you slam the lid the washer will continue the wash cycle to the end. Other times the washer stays filled up...

Sounds like the lid safety switch is either out of adjustment, or needs replacement.

Most washers will fill with the lid open, but no continue a cycle where the drum or agitator spin, unless it senses the lid is closed.

Hi, I have a maytag washing machine. When I close the lid it doesn't always start agitating. It seems that slamming the lid will get it to start, maybe it is just repeated openning and closing that...

Hi, I know this model because I have one exactly as yours and I fixed it a couple of time. Your problem seems to be the lid switch assembly. Your wiil find it for less than $40 at partselect.ca or at the place of your choice. Before buying it make sure that the lid is not loose, if it is, just replace the lid hinge balls (2). If the lid is not loose you might have the lid switch checked by the appropriate person for looseness or breakage. That switch is located under the timer. You will also notice a small bulge on the lid facing the switch. It should be intact or it will not activate the switch.

WHIRLPOOL TOP LOAD WASHER MAKING GRINDING NOISE FOR AGITATION

When you put the motor in did you replace the coupler between the motor and transmission? When fixing the agitator you need to get the agitator repair kit, It has seals, dogs, thrust plate, cam bearing and seals. The upper agitator is supposed to move only in one direction to get the clothes to move down towards the agitator. Do not overload machine. I have one of these and after 12 years I finally had to install this upper repair kit because the upper agitator quit moving. You may have an agitate cam that is going bad inside the transmission

Will not go pass the wash cycle to spin or drain

There is at least one safety switch activated by the lid.
Depending on machine construction, these are somewhat exposed to water incursion that eventually causes them to fail.
The slamming of the lid is causing the failing switch to make enough contact to allow it to spin.

If you are lucky (I don't know your machine), these may be located toward the rear of the housing where they can be fairly easily replaced.

Whirlpool ultimate care II stops during cycle

THe most likely cause for this is either the lid switch or the timer itself sticking.
