Must repeatedly slam top loading door shut for machine to start

If I set the desired cycle, pull out the knob to start the water fill, load the washing machine, close the top loading door and leave thinking the machine will fill and start to agitate properly,I return to find the tub full of water and the cycle not started. Until I open and slam the door shut several times--hard--it doesn't start. I have tried different cycle settings and sequences of actions with no improvement. It will start one time in ten without the slamming.

When I turn the knob and set the type of wash I want. I then pull the knob (which starts the cycle). It should start filling with water. It does nothing at all. It's a pretty new machine.

Your inlet water solenoid could be faulty or you can take off the inlet hose and see if the gauze filter is blocked with something coming through the water line. PS dont forget to turn off the water first!!!

A humming sound in the cycle knob

Make sure that the room is quiet then check that there is a clicking noise from the lid when it is nearly closed

If not then the microswitch is out of whack and needs adjusting

When you slam the door down it is probably enough to make the switch but then the machines movement will undo that action

Well its definately not your water level switch, so that only leaves your water fill valve at the back of the washer, the cold valve is stuck open by debris. hope this helps
