I have a Kenmore 911.9562991 glass top stove and today while cooking the glass top next to the heating element just cracked. I can still cook on the spot but I am a little concerned that this could blow out or burn up. Is there a defect that would cause this to happen. the part is $460 and I think I only paid $500 or $600 for the stove new.

sounds like a bad bake ignitor(uneven heat, long cook times, long preheat times, perhaps even gas smell while cooking)as far as the heat from under the clock assy thats the normal vent( nedds to release heat somewhere, not a problem
