Scanner Error 52 is a hardware error. If turning the power off , waiting 30 seconds and turning it back on does not solve the issue the the scanner assembly might need to be replaced. Another thing to try is make sure the printer is plugged into the wall not into a surge protector. Aside from that you may need to have the scanner assembly replaced.
I noticed that this was posted in Oct 2010. If you are still waiting for an answer, the printer has a scanner error. Power off for about 30 seconds. Power on, if error persists, the scanner assembly will have to be replaced. I hope that you got it fixed by now!
The scanner bed needs to be replaced. You can order the part from HP but it is not a user replaceable part. You can also take it to a local printer repair shop.
A tech needs to look at it. It could be as easy as just reseating the 4 wire bundle connector that comes off the scanner and connects to the formatter. But, in any event a tech has to check it out.
