This can be cause by some dirt or dust on your players lens and the first thing that you can try to correct this problem is to run a CD/DVD lens cleaner its pretty cheap and you can get it from any computer or electronic store near you just run it to your player to clean the lens.

SOURCE: rca dvd player drc285

I have returned the same dvd player twice and it seems that they all have this defect after a few runs. It's a shame because they can read divx but I'm done with this cheap brand made in very light fragile plastic. I've been told that there is nothing to do with this problem, it's just a bad one.

Sorry

SOURCE: DVD player recorder won't read or play any disc

This just worked for me. Don't know how long it will last though. I found it on this webpage
http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/15118/130292.html

To do a reset:
On the remote control press the SETUP button,
Press the right key on the remote 3 times,
The Preference page will show up,
Press the down arrow five time to highlight
"default", hit right arrow to highlight "reset"
Press enter to reset. Turn off/on machine, etc.

Wont play and we had tied everything

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Was this player playing previously? And how long have you been using this player? I suspect the lens of the player. Once the lens of the player becomes weak, it won't play discs any longer.

The first thing my mind goes to, is the lens. The lens id responsible for reading/loading data on discs. So if the lens is unable to read the disc, there is no way the player is going to play the disc.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or probably, a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.

My blu ray player has stoped reading the blu ray discs but will play normal dvds

The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, the blue ray disc requires a higher velocity and more precision in tracking to offer the better resolution that blue ray can provide. It is not uncommon to find they will play normal dvd discs because there is far less demands on the tracking system, but is an early warning of eventual failure. The best course of action is to replace the player in favor of a new one and much cheaper in the long run.

Various LG DVD Player

Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
