Depending on the model you have it can be either or.
if you can lean the machine back and take a llok under neath you might be able to see the motor and the drain pump might be attached to the front of the motor. look just behind the motor and you should see a black rubber piece with two white plastic pieces this is a drive coupler and if it is broken then you need to replace it

LG WM4070H front load direct drive washing machine occasionally emitting burning rubber smell.

Sanitary cycle uses calrod heating element inside of washer to heat water. I suspect that is where smell is coming from. If you infrequently use sanitary, and if you use fabric softener and/or liquid detergent, then a built up on the calrod unit can happen. When used, the buildup can produce odors as you describe.

Maytag legacy series washer

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

Whirlpool cabrio model # wtw5500xw1. Horrible screeching noise when it goes into spin, then shuts off

Since I don't have the service manual for this model- I'm unsure if this is a direct drive motor to transmission or belt driven through pulleys.

In first scenario motor bearing is shot

Belt driven model, belt is worn or derailed from pulley

3rd reason, clothes could be stuck between spin drum and tub assembly, causing the spin drum to jam.

Washing machine drum does not turn

You need to know if your machine is band driven(older model) or gear driven(newer model). Google model to find out or look it up in manual if you have it.
If older model the rubber belt is broken and needs to be replaced OR if newer model the gear that turns the drum is burned out and needs to be replaced. Either way, it best to have a service tech come out and fix it. The rubber band might be old and hard to find & if gear & motor are gone may be too expensive to fix, cheaper to buy another unit.

Will not spin on spin cycle

That is a single belt driven washer built by maytag. Check the lid switch for propah operation. If it is fine tip the washer back do an inspection of the beltthemobilian_2528.jpg
Check the pump for tightness sometimes they lock up or get something in em. If that is fine turn the main drive pulley and see if it releases the brake and lets the drum turn easily. One direction it locks the tub and agitates and the other direction is pumps out the water and spins.

My machine is not spinning what may be the problem

depends on what brand and type of unit... is this a front loader a top loader and what brand.. is it direct drive or belt driven.... if it is belt driven could be a bad belt or pulley...if it is direct drive such as a top load whirlpool ,kenmore, roper, you could have a bad drive coupling which is located between the motor and transmission under unit.... if this is a front loader there are numerous items it could be example a motor controller board, main pcb board.
if everything is working but the spin mode and this is a top loader unit may want to check the lid swich that will cause the unit to not spin.... hope this helps kinda a vague description of your probelm....good luck and give me a vote i need them....

Kenmore Washer - Who is actual maker

That could be why I can't find a match for the model number, I'm not sure. If it was belt driven, the drive belts are located under the washer. You can carefully lift it up enough to look underneath to check it. If you see a couple of pulleys with belts, its a belt driven washer. If all you see is a small drive motor, transmission and pump, it would be a direct drive. Let me know what you find.
