Check the adjustable guides in your paper tray. Make sure they are up against the paper all the way around. This is the most common cause of what you describe. The machine uses the positions of these guides to determine what paper size is loaded. If this does not work there may be an issue with the tray itself.

Hp laserjet 4345 mfp cannot photocopy anything because the startup button has a red light

Hi Bridgette.

The red light on the startup-button indicates that the machine is not ready for a photocopy. Usally there is something stuck in automated document feeder (ADF). Take a close look and see if can see something in the paperpath. If no luck, try pushing a A4 sheet manually through the ADF and see if something comes out with the sheet. Usally there is a small piece of paper, a paper clip or a staple stuck in the ADF. If nothing found in the ADF, the Scanner Controller Board is probably broke, and needs to be replaced. Good luck.

HP LaserJet 4200 - need help resetting default tray selections

Are you using Window 7 64 bit or 32 bit? Re-install drivers appropriate for that version of your operating system. Also look at the "Paper Handling" section in the printer menu. Be sure both trays are set for "Plain" paper.

Hp laserjet must manually push button to print

Hi,

Please print a configuration page from the control panel of the printer
- Menu > Information menu > print configuration.
- Check for paper handling details.
Following setting should reflect.
Tray 1: Any size / Any Type
Tray 2: A4 size / Plain Type

If the above settings are not reflecting in the configuration page, please change accordingly by browsing on the control panel of the printer to:
Paper Handling Menu >
Tray 1 Size: Any
Tray 1 Type: Any
Tray 2 Size: A4
Tray 2 Type: Plain

Let me know if that helps to solve the issue.

Regards,
Nikhil.

Tray 3 is not showing up at all in the printer properties dialog box. Any suggestions?

Have you re-installed the driver recently? Perhaps you didn't install the correct one. for example '4200tn' (the "t" standing for 'tray"). If you have only installed the regular 4200 driver, then tray 3 will not show up by default
However, you can add it to the current driver as an option.
"Right click" the printer icon
Select "properties"
Select "device settings"
under "installable options"
Click on "tray 3 -not installed" to open drop down menu. click "installed"

Won't print to right tray

I had this problem and solved it like this:

  1. Right click on printer driver in printers and faxes.
  2. Select printing preferences
  3. Choose paper quality tab
  4. Set paper size (A4 in my case)
  5. Set paper source to printer-auto-select. This is different from the default "Automatically select"

As long as tray 1 is empty, tray 2 should now kick in. Setting the paper source as tray 2 didn't work at all.

You seem to have to set this on each client computer though - even if you are sharing the printer over a network (4200n).
