MAV4755AWW washer will not agitate.

Washer will not agitate on any wash cycle. It will fill, empty and spin.

Thank you for your help. After I posted I tried it several more times and it started working fine. I washed 5 loads so far and it has worked with no problems. Since it started working what do you think it would be if it stops again?

The good thing is I'm a state certified electrician and I teach electronics at the local junior college so I always fix my own appliances to save money.

    Thanks again!

  • royallard Dec 13, 2009

So it worked all last night and this morning it doesn't work again. It now fills but doesn't do anything else. No agitation, drain, spin or nothing. When I turn it on after it fills I hear a buzz but nothing happens. kind of like a motor trying to turn but locked up.

What should I look for now?

    Thanks!

If you are not trained to work with electric do not attempt. You will need to put into agitation or the cycle where it is supposed to be agitating and measure if you are getting 110 V to the windings on the motor. If you are your motor is not reversing and it is bad. If you are not getting 110V chech all wiring connections from the motor to the timer. If the wires are good you have a bad timer (which is the most likely cause. I have seen this condition a couple of times and in both cases was the timer.) USE PRECAUTION.

The most likely cause is the drain pump if the motor is running but not spinning. The drain pump bearing will lock up and not allow the motor to turn. Tip the machine back, you will see the belt underneath, take the belt off, try to turn the drain pump by hand. The pump will most likely turn very little if at all. If the pump turns freely check the motor and drive pulley by turning both ways. This should narrow the problem down.

It wont complete cycle and empty the water just hums for a while and then turns its self off

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem: It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer. It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Does washer drain before the spin cycle starts?

Normally yes. There are around 12 to 20 gallons of water in the tub after the wash cycle, which will be anywhere from 63 to 110 pounds of weight in addition to the weight of the clothes. For the machine to start the spin cycle to remove this water would place a heavy load on the motor, gearcase, pullys, belts, gears, ect. With the water drained, the load is lighter, and much easier to start spinning the excess water out of the clothes. The normal cycles are: Fill, Agitate, Drain, Spin, Rinse Fill, Agitate for rinse, Drain, Spin Cycle and off. Imagine trying to spin a 5 gallon bucket of water over your head, full of water, and then empty. Which one do you think would be easier to do? And safer for you.

My washer fills , sits, does not agitate, empties and spins.

I had the same problem. Take the agitator off by pulling on it extremely hard - use allen wrenches in the slots on the sides to help. This exposes the "air bell coupler" - take the 7/16" bolt out and slide it off. Chances are the spline is stripped out inside. The part is 5 bucks online

Ge top loader washer agitator does not work

To check the agitator. Start the washer into wash cycle. Once started Push down on top of agitator. If it catches some times or all of the time when pushing down, then then doggets are worn, under the agitator. You`ll have to remove the agitator to see these. If by pushing down on the agitator, nothing changes, Then you probably have a transmition problem. Check this and let me know what you find.

Washer will fill with water but the agitator won't spin.

No agitation or spin in any cycle? If so and the machine will drain check the coupler.

Washer fills and spins but does not agitate

Im sorry to say, it sounds like the transmission in the washer may have gone out, the unit it self sits at the bottem of the main agitator shaft under the the tub, you may be able to have this replaced, but shop around for the right price.

Won't Agitate

If you can hear the motor during the agitate cycle, the the transmission has stripped gears.
