BASE tv/dvd combo- not toshiba but it looks like this model
The pfoblem is with my tv/dvd combo
it's not a toshiba but looks very similar to this model toshiba
in the manuual i can't find a country of origin or any kind of contact
so here is the problem
we were watching regular tv when my 3yr old lent for a moment on the remote and the whole screen suddenly went blue(like it does when you are tuning it) but it has a bright red padlock picture in the corner.
i'm assuming it's locked in some way
the manual makes no reference to this phenomena it talks only about a parental lock when watching dvds
i have tried unplugging it for a time..... i've tried pressing the remote buttons in lots of combinations for different periods of time...10 secs, 20 secs
i've tried putting in the parental lock code as mentioned before.... i've taken the batteries out of the remote and put them in...
the only thing the remote can do is turn the tv off and on again and there's still a blue screen with a bright red padlock!!!!

I turned the TV (Base TV/DVD Combo Model DTC2181 51cm) on by remote and when I went to change the channel the remote would not work. I replaced the batteries just in case to no avail. I went back to Target (Place of purchase) and they could not help me with my problem except to go and purchase a multi remote. I did this then found out that this TV is not campatible with any multi remote. I went back to Target and she told me to look in the book to contact tham direct to see if I would purchase another remote or have it replace and you guessed it no names addresses or phone numbers appear in the book alas NO COMPANY NAME EITHER. I gues I keep climbing my ladder to change channels as we have fixed it to the wall up high. If you are able to help with this problem it would be much appreciated Regards Susan Broken Hill NSW 2880
My tv has the same problem with the lock symbol and the remote will only turn the tv on and off. Also when tv has been on standbye overnight or for over an hour it will not turn on via the remote you have to turn the tv off standbye and leave for approx 4 minutes then turn on again and press the buttons on the tv only after a few pushes will the tv turn on again. The remote will not turn it on. The phone number k-mart gave me to contact Base on a another issue is switched off. So I would be very grateful if anyone has a suggestion. Thanks Colleen

I also had this problem thanks to my 7 month old. Had same problem. Unscrew the back of the TV. Unscrew 2 screws connecting VCR/DVD from TV Base. Unscrew DVD housing on all sides (approx 6 screws). At this point you can see the detached DVD unit. Facing the DVD drawer. Look under it for a white plastic piece that you can slide to the right that should disengage the DVD's circular rotator from the dvd and slide the door open.
If that does not work disconnect the DVD from the 2 connectors at the TV motherboard. Slide slack into the ribbon cable to free up the case. When the DVD unit is out, dissassemble the black plastic DVD unit. Flip it over and manipulate the white plastic gear which will disengage the center rotator.
