HELP!!__CALLING ANY GE FACTORY TECHS

I have a 2006 Profile Dual Evap SxS. The FF side has always registered the proper temp until recently. It registers above 40 yet Food is consistently below 35 in FF. Some lettuce was slightly frozen so its approaching freezing. Thermistor cks fine, fans fine. No heat source near sensor. I was hoping a GE factory tech may have run in to this? I went on a call today another dual evap unit that was registering 66 yet was cooler inside. This unit also frosted over FF evap. It is cycle-matic no defrost heater. Again all Thermistors ck fine fans fine.

There are only 4 thermistors. The Freezer is fine so we wont be discussing the frz evap therm or Frz comp thermistor. Only FF Compartment and FF Evap. I observed a temperature/resistance fluctuation that was accurate with scale. I have also never seem a thermistor still fluctuate resistence yet not be accurate with scale. Plenty that are open/short or stay at one resistence regardless of temp. I was hoping someone has seen this issue out there.

The 5th is for Custom Cool Drawer but isnt used in any way for FF compartment sensing. Also is in totally seperate connector on board.

I did join back in 07 and was here a lot but I got so frustrated with trying to get my premium post money .... I would just use it to be connected to other techs for cases like this refrig. You wont believe what fixed it. The FF thermistor!!! I just went ahead and tried it even though it was testing pretty good to me at the board. Once i had the therm removed i threw it in the freezer and it did raise resistance to over 30K. Thn i left it room temp and it was pretty close around 5k and them i even heated it and it went to 2-3k. It would raise resistance when i stopped the heat. But when i left it in the FF comp overnight it stuck around 10k and never any higher. So sir...you were right....this is the first time Ive seen one flutuate but not be accurate at one temp.

You say " all thermistors check fine " , how did you check them ? Did you check for the 5-8 DC volts at the main control board , for the thermistors ? Did you do the diagnostic check for the thermistors from the control panel ? I'm sure you know there are 5 thermistors , since the refrig has the dual evap . Possibly the # 5 is bad , since it is the freezer temp " controller " , yet if it tells the board it's not cold enough , it still sends refrigerant to the refrig evap . Since the refrig evap has 2 fan motors , can't remember if there is a damper there also . Maybe when the # 3 thermistor is satisfied , it only cuts the fans off , even though refrigerant is still going thru the refrig evap .

You are incorrect sir . There are 5 thermistors , and yes , I have seen the # 4 thermistor , to only let half of an evaporator defrost before telling the board , to restart . If you know how to use the digital board to check the thermistors , it will also tell you , there are 5 .

Cool dude , I think I could learn some from you . You need to be here more often .

Need help diagnosing a SxS FF section not cooling

If the freezer section of your side-by-side refrigerator is not cooling, here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the problem:
  1. Check the thermostat: The thermostat controls the temperature in the freezer section. Check if the thermostat is set to the proper temperature and if it is functioning properly.
  2. Check the evaporator fan: The evaporator fan circulates air over the evaporator coils, which is necessary for cooling. If the fan is not working, it can cause the freezer to not cool. Check if the fan is running and if it is functioning properly.
  3. Check the condenser coils: The condenser coils release heat from the refrigerator. If the coils are dirty or blocked, it can cause the freezer to not cool. Clean the coils and check if they are functioning properly.
  4. Check the defrost system: If the defrost system is not working properly, it can cause frost buildup on the evaporator coils, which can prevent the freezer from cooling. Check if the defrost thermostat, heater, and timer are functioning properly.
  5. Check the compressor: The compressor is responsible for compressing the refrigerant in the cooling system. If the compressor is faulty or not running properly, it can cause the freezer to not cool. Check if the compressor is functioning properly and if it is getting power.
If none of these solutions work, it may be a more serious issue with the refrigerator that requires professional repair. In that case, you may need to contact the manufacturer's customer support or a qualified technician for assistance.

GE PROFILE PSW26SGRB SS

Hi,

If your frig is freezing the food in the chilling compartment as well as the freezer, it means one thing--its thermostat isn't shutting down the compressor when the set temperature has been met. You stated that you had it checked by, I assume, a professional service technician. Being a retired tech myself, I'm surprised that he didn't check this out and discuss it with you. Check the temperature in the freezer! If it is less than 10 degrees F., turn the thermostat to "warmer". If the temp in the freezer is 10 degrees F., leave it alone and go to the temp control in the frig, which is a damper that controls cold air flow from the freezer compartment. Close this damper until your temperature in the upper part of the refrigerator is 38 to 40 degrees F. If these efforts don't shut down the compressor and correct your problem, then the answer is simple. Your thermostat is bad and needs to be replaced. It isn't expensive, and should cost you less than the labor for a tech to install it. Good luck!

GE ARTIC PROFILE REFRIGERATOR....INTERMITTENT HEATING

Sarct, the question is, was the freezer side ok, if it was, I would suspect the damper not opening. If the freezer side was warm too, then I would suspect the evaporator thermistor not sending the signal to the board to terminate the defrost. Have the tech first check the continuity at connector J3. He should have 400ohms at J3-1 to J3-2 and the same at J3-3 to j3-4. If he doesn't get those readings have him check at the damper motor itself. If he doesn't have it there, replace the damper motor. If the damper motor passes all the checks then it's on to the evaporator thermistor. Have him check the resistance. At 5 degrees it should ohm at approx 36K ohms. The evap thermostat is redundant to the defrost operation. It's there as a back up in the event the evap thermistor fails to terminate the defrost. It's normally closed and will open at 140 degrees.

GE DSS25KSRD side-by-side temp control does not change temps. Freezer always at -10 to -20, and FF side never gets below 40. Any suggestions?

If you are talking F then that is too low at -10, F? is what is required.
If C then the FF (whatever that means) at 40C is too hot and -20 is about right for a freezer.

Low voltage at compressor!

My parts lookup too has no images available for you refrig but i believe it to be a GE Profile with a fresh food fan (and air duct down the center of the fresh food side). All fan motors are 12vdc and run off the Lowvoltage side of motherboard. i assume you are checking voltage to comp from motherboard? How did you check relay?? Have you axcessed motherboard?? On the top of (I say top-- i belive its mounted horiz on yours but all the small wires are on the right) is all the low voltage fan motor, damper, control wiring On the bottom (or the left) side of the motherboard is the larger line voltage wiring. The connector with 3 wires is labeled def -- comp---line it should be blue. Try jumping L1 to comp. ((Just so ya know Def will energize the def heater regardless of compartment temp it does have a bimetal but it only a safety set at 100deg in case relay on board welds shut---it monitor evap compartment, frz, fresh food, (two seperate in FF) in your model))

has a FF error shown up on your display. If so that is your freezer fan, and if not it still might be the FF motor is running to slow.
