How can I recover a OE folder that was just deleted from my folder list for no reason? The folder was there one day and the next day it was gone. I have OE 6. Thanks, Tom Larkin

There is a good chance you can recover them, but if you have a lot of folders in a tree-like structure, you will lose this structure, all the folders will appear under the main branch.
If this is OK for you, first you must locate the OE files - you must be able to see hidden folders for that, that's for starters.
Second thing is that you must positively identify the folder, especially if you have several OE Identities.
Once identified, I would make a backup copy of the whole folder (with OE closed of course), just in case. I know it can be big... :)
You will have various .dbx files there. If the dbx file for your lost folder is there, and has a substantial size, chances are that it's OK.
You should turn your interest to folders.dbx, which most often is responsible for such problems; it holds the whole folder structure, and sometimes gets corrupted.
The radical way is to delete it or rename to folders.dbx.old for example. Now start OE and it should re-create this file, but with all the folders coming from the main branch of the folder tree. If your lost folder re-appears and is intact, you can congratulate yourself and perhaps move the folders to reflect the structure they were in before.

I'm aware that I'm being a bit vague, but a person that doesn't know how to look for OE files, show hidden files, make a backup etc. etc. should not attempt to do it, as there's a risk of losing everything...

Good luck!

How do I permanently remove deleted files?

You are only deleting local copies.

Every time you log on to your account, it downloads them again as they are still in your inbox.

You need to delete them while on-line to your mail account.
They should then move to the deleted folder on-line.

Then go to the deleted folder and you select them al,,l and tell the mail program to delete them permanently from the deleted folder.

Then you will never be able to recover them.

How to Retrieve Shift-Deleted Items in Microsoft Outlook

A. ON THE CLIENT COMPUTER

REGISTRY EDITING
Warning: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Backup the registry first.

By default, the Recover Deleted Items functionality is only enabled on the Deleted Items folder in a user's private folders; items that are hard deleted cannot be recovered. To enable the Recover Deleted Items functionality on mail folders other than Deleted Items (for example, for Sent Items, Drafts, Outbox and Inbox folders), you must make the following changes to the registry:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: DumpsterAlwaysOn
Data type: DWORD
Value data: 1

4. Quit Registry Editor.

On MS OUTLOOK

Select the MAILBOX folder, go to INBOX folder.
On the Tools menu, select Recover Deleted Items. (This option will not be available unless you are currently viewing the contents of your Deleted Items folder.)

From the pop-up window, click the message you want to recover. (Note that the date shown next to the message subject is the date that you emptied it from your Deleted Items folder, and not the date of the original message. To see the original message date, you may need to scroll to the right or expand the pop-up window.)
Click the Recover Selected Items button.

The items will be returned to your Deleted Items folder, and then you can move them to other folders.

Note: Deleted items are only available for recovery for a limited period which is based on IRRI exchange server retention policy configuration. You may check it with Kuya Boy.

Hi! Follow these steps to get the information:
1. Re-create your mail folder hierarchy by dragging folders into place in the Folder list. Note that any folder you have created to group sub-folders but that does not itself contain messages will not appear in the Folder list and so must be created again.
2. Re-download the list of newsgroups from each news account.
3. Reset your subscribed newsgroups and download messages again.
4. Reset synchronization options on IMAP and newsgroup folders.
5. Edit any message rule that moves or copies messages to folders other than the Inbox.

Hello,

I believe you need to delete the Deleted Items.dbx file because it is most likely corrupted that's why you're having problems when deleting something on your OE.

To delete the DBX, do the following.

You need to have Hidden files and Folders showing.
At the top of any folder(My Documents for example) click Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
Scroll down the list and place a check next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then click Apply and OK.

In OE click on Tools>Options>Maintenance tab>Store Folder.
On the Store Location box, highlight the address by pressing the Tab key on your keyboard.
Press Control+C (both at the same time) to copy the address to the clipboard.
Click Cancel on all boxes and close OE.

Click on Start>Run.
Press Control+V (both at the same time) to paste the address into the command line and click OK.
The Store Folder containing all the DBX files should open.
In the Store folder, delete the Deleted Items.dbx and close the Store folder.
Open OE and see if you can now delete messages

Hope this works for you!

To recover permanently deleted mails from my yahoo inbox

When messages are deleted in Yahoo! Mail, they are transferred to the trash folder. If a message was deleted by mistake, simply find it in your trash folder and move it to your inbox or another folder in order to recover it.
The trash folder can be deleted at any time. It can also be manually deleted by clicking the "Empty" link next to the trash folder in the left navigation bar. Next, you will see a prompt asking if you're sure you want to delete all messages. Click "Yes" to delete or "No" to return to the previous page.

Please Note: Once messages are emptied from the trash folder, they are permanently deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server and cannot be recovered.

How to recovery deleted sent item in oe-6

Hi Shreedhar.bh

It is very unusual for only one folder to cause problems in OE6.

  • Is the folder missing or is it there but empty?
  • Are all the other folders ok?
  • Try sending a new email and see if it appears in the sent folder?
  • Try doing a full virus scan.
  • Clear out old temporary internet files.
  • Check that OE is operating correctly and not freezing.
  • You could try using System Restore to take your computer back to a point when it was working correctly.
  • If the folder is missing completely, it could be that OE6 has been corrupted by a virus and is unable to read the folder. All the OE folders on your hard drive have the extension .dbx. You can search for them using find files and folders. You will only be able to open them with OE.
