Scanning trouble PLEASE HELP!!!

The scanner light works and it moves. When the page prints, only approx. 1/4" on one side appears. The rest of the page looks like static on a television with colored streaks in it. We have installed it again and tried everything we know. Can you help.

    1. no, even the "preview" of the scan looks on screen exactly how it prints. (static with colored lines in it)... and it will even save the image that way)
    2. yes, printing photos and documents from pc are not a problem
    3. no, will print the static and colored lines

When I try to scan anything the entire page comes out like coloured static on the entire page except for the outer edges, this area still shows up. Gone through all restart and reinstall motions, even leveled it out to make sure it was flat....no good, anyone with an answer to this problem please let me know

That is what it does, 100% of the time, mostly without the little snippet it showed. I got lucky that time.

I have the same exact problem as stated. I put a document to copy facedown on the scanning bed, adjust the paper size, type, etc and push start button. Most of page prints as if it's static on a screen, yet 1" on one size prints perfectly in both color and B&W. I've tried switching the paper size, type, quality, changing cartridges, aligning, restarting, etc. without any luck. Any suggestions?

Tries to scan but only small section on top prints. The rest is just like static on a TV screen

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2008

Just the first and last 2 or 3 letters or numbers apear on either side of the static line down the middle of the page. The same shows in the scanned image on the monitor...The static strip is 6 & 3/4 inches wide, so you still see part of the documents on either side...any idea's???

Scanjet G4050 - Image is sometimes at an angle in PDF scan, even though paper and original text was straight. How to prevent this?

Hello

This is a flatbed scanner. Since the paper is aligned to the sides of the scanner the problem could be two things:

- The paper guides on the sides of the scanner are not accurate to the scanning path

- The scanning bar is not moving parallel to the sides of the scanner (one side is slightly ahead of the other side).

I had a similar flatbed scanner and the paper guide was off about 1/16" - so all scans were either tilted or I had to manually move the paper on the glass to correct.

HP do have directions on how to maintain your scanner - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SupportTaskIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=125&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=3236371

- but it does not include any info on how to re-calibrate it. So it would appear that this is something you will have to manually correct.

Download and print out something with a grid or ruler measurement on it. This site has some examples - http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/HPPSS/PSRESV.HTM

Align the page normally and scan it with your scanner, print the results. Compare the scanned print to the normal page and adjust the paper accordingly on the scanner.

Once you have the new location for originals on your scanner, take some construction paper or poster board and trim out pieces to tape or glue to the glass of the scanner to form a new paper guide.

While a calibration tool would be better, this method will definitely work.

"Skip Blank Page" Set to 0.1% Yet still skips pages with footers and headers

We have the same problem where I work. We use a black texta and draw a line down the middle of the page. This gives the scanner a point to pick up apart from the minimal text at the top. However, this will only work if you are happy to have a line on your scanned document!

Copy mode

Is this happening when you print or when you scan? If when scaning you could have something on the scanner bed... If this is happening when you print, it could be the cartride is defective.

Test page and scanner

Hey satz, Take that test page, and put it into scanner, (Printed area will be on mirror side) then press scan button "Bottom left side of your printer". After stopping the fluctuation of light you will never face that problem. This error appears when you turn out the cartridge from your printer. sanjeev [email protected]

Print Problem - vertical lines

If the problem only occurs when using the document feeder, the problem is not usually caused by the drum. When using the document feeder, try to notice where the scanner (the light assembly under your scan glass)stops just before the paper is being fed. Some multifunction machines have a small piece of glass that is separate from the large scan glass and the scanner assembly stays parked underneith it as the original is being fed over it. Most likely there is something on the glass where the scanner parks as originals are being fed thru the feeder. When putting your original on the large scan glass to copy, the mark on the glass will only show as a spot, but will show as a vertical line thru the whole copy when using the feeder.
