Hp compaq nc 6400 will not read dvd+R, CD plays fine

I have same problem when I look up for optical drive from computer window it is not there any more. I called hp, they ran diognose for 3 hours, after that they said dvd drive's (optical drive) lens went bad. they sold me new one for $130.00 when I replace the part it was same problem. I called them again they said, next step was mother board might went bad. They said there was a mother board recall last year but now it is expired and i can't take advantage of it. They tried to sell me a mother board for $400.00. I didn't except it end called another hp operator again and asked if there was any recall for mother board? Operator said yes there was and she set me up for motherboard recall. So I am waiting for hp box that they will send me, so I can send back loptop for repair.
