Brother MFC-685cw stuck shutting down/standing by

I have a Brother MFC-685CW. I used it for about 2 months, and everything worked fine. Now, the screen says "Shutting Down, Standing By, On/Off to Resume." However, when I press the on/off button, it beeps 3 times. No other button seems to have any effect, unless I am holding down the on/off button and press another button, at which time it will only beep 3 times. I have tried unplugging the machine for several days in order to hopefully reset it, but as soon as I plug it back in, it goes back to this same screen.
Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Hold down that on/off button for at least 10 seconds without pushing any other buttons, wait after you release it and it should either wake up or shut down.

This is an IP addtress problem. Make sure the device on the computer is using the same IP address as the device itself.

I need help please, I have a Brother MFC-685CW and it does not print black. I have tried the test page, as well as many other pages (online and off) and the black doesn't print. All the cartridges are new...
sounds like the little "micron"sized hole in the PRINT HEAD is plugged. if it has a purge or clean cycle like the 465c that might work. usaully soaking in denatured alcohol is the way. i dont think the printhead is accessible to humans or mere mortals like us.

usally the instructions recommend dont turn off printer

If there is no direct symptom of paper jam and still you cannot do printing properly, find whether it is because of drum problem. If the paper gets into the end gear of the rotating drum and gets stuck there, you cannot access the printing function. Switch off your printer and check the plastic arms of the printer drum. If there is any paper piece jammed in any of the arms, you can't continue printing. Here also cleaning is the best method to solve the problem. While cleaning, check the arms of the rotating drum.

Unable to change 4f error on Brother MFC-685CW
Hi there
Brother 4F
Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message.
