Can't read or play any DVDs, CDs or games. Can do

all will buy this to play games only but that itself its not doing means some problem with it...did u read the manual that it can play cds...if it so u must check this site to solve your problem

Hi. It seems that you might have an old version of the PS2.

The original PS2's had a problem with the laser that read CDs and DVDs, often failing, creating problems with reading DVDs and in rare cases, CDs.

Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit filed against Sony is too old to get yours fixed for free, but there are ways to attempt to fix the laser yourself, if you would rather not send it in to Sony.

laser is geting week, replace system or send in for repair

The laser may be bad, if your warranty is over go to ebay and find one then put it in.

this is a problem the microsoft has been working on ... remove any disc from the tray> unplug it from all power the plug it back in> open the disc tray .. leave it open for a little while like 10-15 seconds .. then put the game in and it should work .. if it does not however you have one of the defected disc trays and you'll need to get it repaired by microsoft .. i know its not what you want to hear but hey at least they will fix it free of charge =]

there is a problem with your firmware please flash it if you have modded your xbox 360(putting pirated disks)please go to same shop where have you modded because he only can have your original dvd key if you have not modded it go to any official microsoft service centre

The 'Eye' that the PS uses to read DVDs/CDs are different, the one that reads cds has gone bad on yours it seems, so you should still be able to play the games that have the dvd logo, if it is still under warranty I reccommend calling sony.

ok my friend, the blue ray laser has two high energy beams at 450nm(bluelight) and 730nm (redlight). the highpower diode on your machine im afraid has failed. The bluray light reads bluray games and bluray dvd's. the lower power red light reads audiocds and regular dvds/dvdrs. you need to install a new laser ..only 100 i charge or 160 from sony (150+TAX+2 week wait+frustration from not playing COD4)
Now if you have the newer model laser KES410ACA, then you have 2 SEPARATE light sources...these tend not to fail as often
