The problem, as you describe, is exactly that! One of your buttons is stuck down in the pressed position. If you press Home and the screen comes up asking you if you want to quit and a button is already pressed down, you will not be able to press X to confirm yes or no.
You didn't specify which PSP you have, 1001, 2001, or 3001, but the following website sells the part you need to fix this issue. They also perform repairs if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. It's a pretty cheap and straightforward part to replace:
Hi. Since you're in UMD Autoload mode, you need to configure that in the PSP Settings. To do this, turn off your PSP and remove your UMD. Now, turn it back on and it won't autoload your UMD since it wasn't there anymore.
Now, go to "Settings" and scroll down to "System Settings" and press X. Scroll down again the selection until you see "UMD Auto-Start" and press X. At the right side will appear the options "ON" and "OFF". Select "OFF" and press O button several times to go back to main screen.
Insert your UMD. Now, try playing games from Memory Stick. You may have to turn off your PSP and turn it on again to finally play homebrew...
I hope this helps...
Based on your concern, I suggest trying the following steps:
1. Connect the PSP to your PC with a USB cable. 2. Press the "home" button on the PSP --> at the lower left of the screen you can see the home button. 3. Use the left-right directional buttons to find"Settings", then the up-down buttons to find "USBConnection" on the PSP. 4. Press the "X" button, your PSP should display"USB Connection". 5. Please wait until your computer tells you that a new USB devicehas been connected, then show you a new generic hard drive, usually E: or F: 6. Click on the drive letter that corresponds to the PSP unit. 7. Now look for ISO folder then copy your desired game (ISO file)into the folder. 8. When you're done copying your desired games, press the"O" button on the PSP to get out of USB connect mode. 9. To play the game, Use the left-right arrows to move to the gamearea, then the up-down arrows to find "Memory Stick". Chose thatfolder by pressing the "X" button again, and you should be able toplay all your favorite game!
