Are you in or out of warranty and have you taken it apart recently?
Have you done a update or a downgrade or similiar software related thing on the machine before the problem appeared.
When did the problem come up and what was done before it?
hows the battery? do you have another battery to try? does it react to the charger?

the psp is just over two years old, and the only thing i have done is take the battery out and put back in a couple times. nothing else has been taken apart
the game machine had run normally until last monday when i was in an airport. changed games and it would not come back on. nothing has ever been down loaded or any thing
i think the battery is fine, the game does the same thing when it is plugged into the charger
