SOURCE: How do I format a disc (DVD or CD) on Windows XP?

You only format a CD/RW or a DVD/RW, which are re-writeable.

Regular discs do not need to be formatted (CD-R or DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R DL, etc.).

To format the DVD/RW idisc, use the "burner" software ( Sonic?, Nero?) and choose [Tools] [Erase Disc] (erase is the same as format)

How to reformat pc hard drive?

Very simple, first take backup of all your Data on a Separate Hard Drive or CD, DVD, BluRay or Pen Drive etc. Afterwards, use your Operating System disk (that you're going to use after formatting), as you insert Operating System CD/DVD in your CD/DVD Drive, you'll get options out of which one would be suggesting you to format your Hard Disk, In Format Options, you'll get two sub options or even more, better and safe to choose default option (On which the cursor automatically sets before you choose, but if uncomfortable, call your Computer Service Center). As you hit that option, you'll find your Hard Drive getting formatted and after that, your computer will prompt you with Operating System Installation options.

And if you're about to format a Hard Drive, but not to setup an Operating System on it, even easier: After Backup of your data on that Hard Drive, just right click its icon and choose Format and you'll be able to do so after a few options.

Also, you can learn from Help and Support Section.

For CD Rom or DVD disks

Open the software that you use to burn or write files to the CD-rom or DVD drive.

My laptop getting slow and slow.. how do i reformat my computer??

Just get an Operating System CD/DVD, you want to format with, place it in your CD/DVD drive and make a computer reboot. When the computer will restart, during the pre-booting process, it will show "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD". Now press any key to start the formatting process (But before that, be sure, you have CD/DVD boot option ON in the BIOS settings).
Now follow the on-screen instructions. That's all.

I have a JVC DVD Player (XV-N670B), (XV-N672S). I recently purchased a BluRay DVD and after inserting the DVD into the player, "Disc Error" appears. Would you tell me if my player can...

Sorry to say, no; this is a model limitation not a fault as such. XV-N670B is a DVD player, and the playable formats are:

DVD-Video, DVD-RW/-R, +RW/+R, CD, CD-R/RW, SVCD/VCD, WMA/MP3/JPEG, DivX. No Blu-ray support.

The JVC XV-BP11 and XV-BP1 do play Blu-Ray discs, as they are specifically Blu-Ray players (according to the JVC website).

I have heard of quite a few Blu-Ray players allowing DVD playback. The XV-BP1 supports the following playable media: BD-R/RE (Blu-Ray), DVD-Video/-R/-RW, R/ RW, CD, USB (again, this is from the same JVC website). You would need to purchase this or a similar Blu-Ray player to enjoy the benefits it has to offer (but it's up to you if you want one of those later on).

DVDs are still good, the 'disc error' message on your DVD player is normal due to the wrong media format inserted. The bonus here is it didn't cost you anything to ask, and you don't need a workshop quote on repairs.

This is the best free advice I can offer.

Ps3 wont read dvd or bluray discs

If you are facing problems of freezing and non-readable disc you should first try lens cleaning, the best option would be to give it for repairs to Sony if your product is under warranty

Hp pavilion zv6000 wont recognize dvd+r

Hi Terry,

The answer is pretty simple, the ZV series is about 4 years old, back then DVD manufacturers decided which formats they would support as it was too expensive to make desktop drives, let alone, laptop drives that supported all formats. That drive only works with DVD-R and I believe DVD-RW. If you want to burn other formats, the laptop will only support them if you add an external drive of a newer make.

Note: Virtually all current models support ALL DVD formats and many support BluRay as well.

Hope this helps,

Chris
