For scanning documents, you will also need to install the Lexmark OCR Scan software on your computer. This is used for scanning documents to PDF files and/or saving multiple pages into one file. The software is only available on the installation disc that came with your computer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistance.
I hope this information has been helpful.

You can try to update your printer driver by downloading the Lexmark X7170 driver from the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/fWPweq. Select your operating system, download and execute the file.
You can also try to decrease the scan resolution. Launch Lexmark All-In-One Center application on your computer. Select Scan mode > See More Scan Settings > lower the scan resolution value to 200 or 150 dpi. Note: This will decrease the scan file size and affect the scan output.
Or you can use a third party scan software to decrease scan file size. You can search the web for free scan softwares.
The Lexmark X7170 printer can only scan one page at a time. However, it has the capability of scanning multiple pages using either the scanner glass or through the automatic document feeder. Refer to the Lexmark X7100 Series User's Guide for more information.
For your second question, Yes, you have an option to save your scanned file to a Microsoft document as long as the Lexmark OCR scan software is installed on your computer. Go to Adobe Acrobat. Click on FILE. Click on CREATE PDF. Click on FROM SCANNER. Click on SCAN. You should now be scanning your first page, after completing it you will be asked if you want to scan any more pages or close. Select to scan more pages till finished. You can also select to have Acrobat do an OCR after the scan which will allow you to search the document. To do this, click on DOCUMENT, click on RECOGNISE TEXT USING OCR and click on START.
Only if you use Adobe Acrobat (full version) to create the PDF.
All the "text" in the PDF will still be encoded as "scalable text fonts",
rather than as bitmaps.
Anything you "scan" will just be zero and one values,
and the size of the file will be proportional to the amount of "black" (and/or colour) in the scanned image.
If the documents you are scanning are black and white, make sure you are selecting that in the scanner dialogue box. If you need to keep gradiants, but don't need color, try selecting grayscale. If you are adjusting your DPI (dots per inch) to the maximum (300), try using something lower (recommend 150). Lastly, check the settings in the software you use to create PDFs to ensure they are the same as what you use at the office.
well you are able to scan multiple documents.. but the file size is more.. the way lexmark software writes the pdf file.. the file will be huge for PDF... but not sure if this is a case with any other all in one manufacturer like HP also... but i would assume it would be the same..
so scan the file to MS WORD or any other application that supports multiple pages... so u have it as one file... but if u want only pdf files, then u have to do a little work around like writing the MS WORD Document to pdf format. If the PDF Writer is not installed with your copy of MSWORD then try any free pdf writer software available on the internet.
