Don't know which model you have but I have the DF-280. I had the same issue many people are having (my unit would not power on). The power cord is fine as I've confirmed this with a digital voltmeter. Turns out this particular unit has a safety switch on the right side of the metal/plastic brain unit housing. The switch is underneath the plastic protrusion that is perpendicular (or at a right angle) to the detachable electric plug. You probably won't notice it unless you look for it. My guess is the switch became less sensitive with use and despite being properly mounted to the fryer base, the brain unit did not recognize that it is properly mounted to the fryer base and therefore would not turn on.

The easiest fix for this is to stuff a small piece of paper towel slightly into the slit where the switch is activated and then remount the brain unit onto the fryer base. Another option is to replace the switch or buy a whole new fryer. If your switch actually was the problem, it should now turn on and work properly as mine did. Hope this helps...

SOURCE: Rival CFZ530 Deep fryer

I had this same problem which is how I came across your post, and I found on the Rival website ( www.rivalproducts.com ) you can email the company and tell them the model number and they will email you the manual, and if you're like me and hate to wait that long, you can call their customer service number and tell them what you need and they will email you the manual in about an hour. The number the website gave me was  1-800-323-9519, and I also realized there was also a number on the box too.

SOURCE: Deep Fryer stopped working.

I had the same problem, but I fixed mine!!!! Make sure that the part with the control panel is locked in. It you just sit it in, it won't come on. You must lock it in on the side.

SOURCE: cleaning deep fryer

You can not remove the reservoir because if you clean it out with a hot soapy spange or rag. turn the frier over and remove the plate you will see why the reservoir wont come out.

If the reset button is not tripped, it is likely that a wiring connector has failed or the on-off button is defective.

Finding reset switch for vollrath 40707 deep fryer

Reset switch (hi-limit reset button) is usually located at the back panel of the unit if it has a reset button design. If the hi-limit activates and does not have reset a button, you have to wait for the oil temperature to cool down and it will automatically reset.

Fryer not working

I also have the 4320 and my problem was a reset button on the back, down in a hole.
My reset button is red. Also there is a safety swith on the rear where you slide the control
unit into the grooves, it has to be all the way down for it to work.

Fryer quits heating have to hit reset switch

This button should be a high limit switch. If it is a small red button mounted to a 2" x 2" or so device. You most likley have an issue with the thermostat letting it over heat. The best thing to do would be to replace both the thermostat and the high limit for safety reasons.
