If I read and understand correctly somewhere in the cycle you are getting 5 red blinks? that is an error code........

Either you or I can Google the model number of the set with 5 blinks.....or visit the Sony site to see what it means.....

Needs new lamp or the fan is out.

Thats an error code, but I will need the model number to help you identify what the 5 blinks mean

Hey there,
I've had my Sony KF-50WE610 for approx. 4years now and have just experienced the prob you described (though I didn't think to count the number of red blinks). I called Sony TV technical support (888-772-7669, #3 for TV/digital cameras, #1 for TV, then #1 again I think). They said that if the power/standby light blinks 5x, that means there's something wrong with the lamp driver and service will be required. Needless to say, I better go home and count my red blinks! it is a bad fan. it also could be a power supply. Quite often the real problem is dirt clogging up the fan(s) to the point that they need to be replaced. Operation of the set in a dirty environment is not a good idea
