Question about Samsung HC-P4363W 43 in. TV/DVD Combo

1 Answer

Red and Green

The colours on the TV are messed up, there is a red 'wave' that runs horizontaly across the top of the screen, and the picture is split with red and green hues. It almost looks like you're watching 'scramblevision' (that's the best way I can describe it).

Although tv is showing picture the colours only showing background etc are green and blue

Your TVs red colour output section has the trouble. There is no red output at the red cathode of the picture tube. The red, green, and blue output sections are on the picture tube base board. In some Philips model, these will be consists of transistors, and some has an IC or Tree ICs for three colour output used. You just open your TV, measure the voltages at these three cahodes. There will be markings on the printed circuit board for these cathodes marked as [Rk,Bk and Gk].
In your TVs case the voltage at the Rk marked pin will be higher that the other two cathodes. This can be caused by an open drive transistor or an Ic whichever may ysed there. If it is transistor, just replace it with a same type and number, as in the ace of ICs the related Ic, must be replaced. If only one Ic is uded for red, green and blue outputs, that Ic must be replaced.
If you need any more assistance, feel free to get me through Fixya. Ok.

The tv keeps losing color

The remaining red retrace are the giveaway that this is most likely not a CRT problem.

(If there were no red lines, it could be the filament for the red gun of the CRT going on and off due to a bad connection inside the CRT - bad news.)

How is a black and white picture? (Turn down the color control).

If B/W picture is good, then the problem is somewhere back in the chroma decoder circuitry.

Check the video input to the CRT video driver board and signals on that board. If B/W picture is also bad, then you can compare red and green signals to determine where they are becoming different. The red lines in your description sounds like the red video output circuit is drifting and messing up the background level, blanking, screen, or other setting. Could be a capacitor or other component.
Hope this will help...

Want to use the tv to play the Wii, but when I turn the tv on it only searches for channels, but can't find any. It then says to check cable connection and search for channels again. No channels found. It...

Ok, the Wii connect to the tv thru the Audio/Visual connections, generally at the back, or side of the unit, usually they are Yellow, Red, and White, or Blue, Green & Red. Please ensure you are connected Colour-to-colour, and then on the TV or remote, select one of the Auxillary, A/V inputs. Then you should see the Wii picture on ya TV. That is why you cannot "find" anything on scanning.

Top part of tv has a colour problem, its faded and looks like its shaded

if picture is not having a 3d look were red green and blue does not converge properly then it could be as simple as a dirty mirror but unfortunately either you have a convergence issue or a cloudy coolant fluid or a bad focus block

This sounds like a degaussing (named after 19th century scientist Carl Friedrich Gauss) problem. This usually occurs one of several ways:

1. The TV fell down and went "boom".
2. Junior held a magnet up to the screen when you weren't looking.
3. There is a large, unshielded speaker near the set.
4. The TV was rotated in relation to the North/South magnetic poles of the Earth while it was running (yes, really).

All televisions have a degaussing coil built into them which is activated momentarily every time you turn on your TV. This typically will cure all minor anomolies over the course of a few days. However for a severe one like you have, it will probably require a trip to your friendly repair shop. I, personally, do not charge anyone to perform this service because it takes, literally, 5-10 seconds to degauss a TV. I simply ask them to remember me next time they go to buy a new TV or need service work. I can't say that your technician will do the same.

In the case of the first instance of the TV falling down and going "boom". If it fell with enough force to warp the shadow mask built into the picture tube, then all of the above information means nothing. The set will require a picture tube replacement to cure the problem.

Hope this helps,

Picture WAY messed up!!

Go to menu, and under video or picture, go to advance setting and then go to convergence. This TV should be equipped with and automatic convergence adjustment. Just follow the instruction on you owners manual. If this does not fix it, it means that your convergence chips are shot, and you will need to have a train repairman fix it.
