Hitachi 53UWX10B 53" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
PROBLEM WITH GETTING LOCAL hd CHANNELS
You need to have a set top box.
By law, as of March 1, 2007, almost all televisions should include a
built-in tuner (called HDTV, digital, or ATSC tuners) that can receive
high-definition programs over the air by simply connecting an antenna. Your HDTV doesn't have such a tuner, you'll need to connect an
external tuner (or cable or satellite box) to watch high-definition
programming. External over-the-air HDTV tuners currently cost at least
$150.

My 53UWX10B has a picture
If the picture is 3d looking in some way----it is a convergence problem; many of these sets have "magic focus" and if it will not correct the problem the two convergence chips need to be replaced---this model should use either STK-392-110 OR -150 CHIPS.
This can be a do it yourself repair if you have some skill and total parts cost on Ebay would be under 25 dollars.
Let me know your skill level here and I will instruct you how to do the fix.
SD TECH
I have red shadows on
You need to replace STK ICs they are Big Black ICs will have PN# on them STK392-110s use 150s Mats has them 1-800-628-1118
We get a double wavy
the problem on your tv is the convergence ic part # stk392-110 , that way the magic focus is not working , normal repair cost is about $200 , but if you have some electronics exp you can chance this part other wise i recomend to hire a tv tech to fix this problem
I NEED A MANUAL
based on model listed here visit the Hitachi site or Google the model number with "manual" to locate a owner manual for this set.
Need help with Convergence board.
Sounds like the convergence has failed which is a common problem with rear projection TV sets. This video has more details on this and info on how to fix it,
When using majic focus the blue doesnt focus right
Simple answer for this question:Magic focus is for Convergence and attempts to adjust at about 16 points on the screen---if it does not help the two convergence chips this set uses need to be replaced---small chance if either chip shorted you may have a bad resistor near them also.See attached photos of convergence problems --no two look the same but you will now know if your problem.I have replaced chips in hundreds of these Hitachi sets--about the only real issue the sets have--life span on the chips is 5-7 years. If you can solder and are moderately handy this can be a do it yourself repair--Parts (see photo of chips) cost will be under 25 dollars and the fix for a first time person about one hour.Happy to help and assist you if you decide to fix it yourself.
Chips look like these and may have the stk-392-150 number on them, a stronger version of the one seen in the photo
