You have a problem with the blue and green tubes having a fungus growing across the face of the tube, thus blocking the light/picture. This will cause the color to be way off and the focus as well. Need to have the fluid changed in blue and green tubes. The red never seems to be affected...must be the red wave lenght inhibits the growth of algee or something. Anyway....That's what you need, not the convergance chip STK's. Trust me on this. T.V. tech. for over 20 years...see this ALL the time. Good luck.

We have a 52 inch rear projection Mitsubishi not sure of the model number and the picture is starting to go blurry with reds and greens at the bottom of the screen

Here is another similar problem with a Mitsubishi Rear Proj. TV and it has some things to try and an estimate if that is the problem.

"Cost of convergence repair is always around $400"

http://en.allexperts.com/q/TV-VCR-Stereo-1749/Mitsubishi-WS55511-Projection-TV-1.htm

You could also try messing around in the menu for convergence adjustments. Usually it will let you adjust at 8 points on the screen.

I have a 52 inch RCA projection TV about 15 yr old today the colours are not lining up causing a shadow of red behind white lettering and looking like a 3 D show withought wearing the proper glasses?

you need to replace the convergence supply board, if it's one of the earlier models, you change the chip stk730-130 that will fix it. the board is small and up off the chassis to the right slightle, 4, 1/4'' screws holds it in place.
you might be able to get a whole new board, which would require no soldering to fix.
