"wrong cartridge" message appears, new

It could be due to "waste tank full" alarm; you may need to reset the waste tank counter.
I found a reset sequence for a MP730 printer in this website that works for F30 and F50 as well. Try:
Resetting the Waste Ink Volume Counter

1) Enter SERVICE MODE.---
By pressing Menu-Copy-#

2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE.
4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR].
5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
6) Press the [OK] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

Skip step (6) since there is no [OK] key on F30 or F50 printers.

I have a canon mp730 and since I have replaced my ink cartriges I keep geting a wrong cartridge message. I have checked and rechecked installation and re booted several times to no avail. I have checked...

Many times , if we use refilled ink cartridge , then also we might get such error messages on the printer display .
Ensure that you are using genuine Canon ink cartridges.. but if the error is after changing to a new set of genuine ink cartridges..
try by cleaning the electrical contacts of both ink cartridge and the printer.. and also do a semi full reset..

Re cannon mp730 all in one -I keep getting ?wrong cartridge? error msg. when I followed the solutions that had been posted a month or two ago, removing the cartridge holder, etc. I found that the ink was...

Your print head may be damaged. You might consider replacing it.

Canon suggests pulling the ink wells and also pulling the print head and then reinstalling the whole assembly. They consider this a reset. It is also suggested to replace the printhead which the ink cartridges are housed in. I have done this to remedy bad printing and am considering this $50 purchase as I am dealing with "wrong cartridge" message also. Some have said replacing the printhead remedied this code problem. BUT, i did read one person who said this did NOT work. Right now I am debating whether I should put $50 dollars more into this machine....although this printer has been excellent and many agree.
Comments: Apr 17, 2010 - As a follow up I did fix my "Wrong Cartridge" message by replacing the printhead, I worked and worked at cleaning the old one but finally gave in and anted up the $50. This fixed it! Long live DIYers!

I have a Canon MulitPass MP730. Wrong Cartridge message.

It's worth repairing, That error on a Canon is saying that the printhead is bad, not your cartridges. The part number for your printhead is stamped on the side of the printhead could be QY6-0049-000 but I'm not sure.

Mp730 message wrong cartridge??? I did install a new ink cartridge, no help so I cleaned and reinstalled the print head after shutting it down for 30 mininutes no help. Still geting the same message....

That message means that you need a new printhead, the holder where your inks go. the part number is QY6-0064-000 around $40.00. easy to change yourself, instructions are included.

MP730 printer Canon

Warning: This can be messy. Covering your counter or table and wearing thow away plastic gloves is strongly recommended. Take all the ink cartridges out. Wipe the rims of the ink ports and seal with tape or peel & stick label, to stop them from drying out and set aside. Flip up the plastic lever on the right side of the ink cartridge holder box. This will release the hold down mechanism that keeps the print head in solid contact with the electrical contacts at the back of the ink cartridge holder. Gently lift out the actual print head. You may have to gently use a straightened out paper clip to rock it out so you can get it with your fingers. Get a small plastic tub (cottage cheese or yogourt container) etc., and soak it in rubbing alcohol for an hour or two. Put enough over it to also soak the ink screens on the other side from the printing part of the head. Clean gently with a Q-tip and alcohol. Inspect the bottom side with a magnifying glass if available, and get any dried ink off. Change the alcohol and do this again until all ink is gone. Finally, shake the alcohol out over a newspaper (watch, i'ts messy) and leave overnight to dry. Clean the gold dots with alcohol just before you put it back in. It is important not to touch the gold or the actual printing part of the print head. Put it all back together and run a few head cleanings thin a nozzle check. If the problem persists, call Canon and order a new print head. Approx. $60-70. Good luck.
