Mitsubishi WS55809 "red" converge problem

I have a Mitsubishi WS55809 (HD1080 series) and the red converge only moves up and down. It won't move left or right. The blue converge works fine. I would appreciate any suggetions on how to fix it or what the problem might be.

I spoke with several repair facilities. All of them said it was the "dual color" or "tri color" convergence transistors. All of them needed to be changed. THe charge was $60.00 for the transistors and $90.00 for the labor.
THe parts run between $10.00 and $15.00 but the transistors are on the front of the heat sink and they can only be read by removing the board. I figure I'll bring it in and have it repaired.

On my HD1080 Mitsubishi projection flat screen 55809 the picture is bowed on top and bottem and it look as if the projectors themselves are offset, but the picture is clearer as you come toward the center....

It could be one of two things: Either a bad solder joint or convergence IC failure.

Convergence IC failure is very common. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless

Hi in the convergence to adjust the color the red is above the plus sign in 3 spots and will not come down and they are not straight

does the blue convergence crosshairs move up and down left and right? Does the red move left or right. does the red move up at all. this might indicate a faullty resistor, bad ic or just bad convergence data. let me know i am here to help

Have a mitsubishi HD1080 and after a power outage all the colors went out of sync. I see red yellow and green separately.

have you gone into the menu and tried to adjust the convergence back
if you have and it doesnt move
you have a convergence ics that have failed and they will have to be replaced

if you have the tools a soldering station and some knowledge
you could replace them your self or you may want to enlist the help of a local servicer in your area

SAME TV(mitsubishi HD1080 series)-- corners of screen are bent

Your TV most likely has a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.
