Refrigerator with ice maker but no hook up

Is it ok to have an ice maker that is not hooked up? I just bought a new Maytag, and I do not plan to hook up the ice maker. Is there anything special that I need to do?

I just bought a used Maytag Refrigerator MSD2454GR.I want to hook up the water. Underneath their are two(2) lines disconnected. One to the door and one to what looks like the drain pan.Is their a part...

there is nothing missing, the one to the drain pan is coming from the freezer, The one going to the door, is going to the water dispenser. If you pull the fridge out and go behind, you will also see one going up to the ice maker. At the bottom of the fridge in the back, remove the cardboard panel. Once removed you will see the water inlet valve with two lines leading from it. (The one going to the door and the one going to the ice maker. At the front of the water inlet valve is where the main connection gets hooked up to supply the water. Remember to use teflon tape or it will leak. Hope this helps

Water is not coming out of water dispencer and ice maker is not making ice also i just installed a new water filter

Have you checked the fitting that hooks your Refrigerator into your water system? This fitting is most usually located on the cold water feed for your kitchen sink. This fitting can get build up of calcium and other minerals from your water.

My Maytag Plus refrigerator was stored for 3 years in a climate controlled storage. I moved it a couple of weeks ago and ran it for a week or so without hooking up the water line, and it was working great....

If that is the model number above your post let me know or if different. Most times the dual water control valve sticks or or may need to replace. Place water in the trays and if it freezes cycles and dumps the ice maker is OK but the ice maker during is last few seconds of cycle tells the valve to open. Try that first and I will find you a service manual and part numbers. Sea Breeze

Freezer is almost always running....

If you look at the icemaker, you will see a metal wire which runs along the side of the unit. If you manually swing the wire arm up until it locks in place (about 90 degree swing from the normal straight down position) you will have turned the icemaker off. (Alternatively you can unplug the electrical plug from the icemaker which goes into the freezer wall.)
If the icemaker is not turned off, it will periodically cycle, which turns on the ice cube mode release heater during it's cycle, putting unnecessary heat into your freezer. You do not need to plug the ice maker supply line. This should be a Fix-Ya for your refrig.

Refrigerator help

You should only need one water line to feed the water and ice maker with domestic water.

Ice maker not getting water in the line

The only other component stopping the valve from putting water into your icemaker is the icemaker itself. Replace your icemaker and you should solve your problem.
