My fridge was unplugged for over a year and i live in the desert so there is high heat. Now the fridge and freezer will not cool below 78 degrees. The motor never shuts off. I do not hear any buzzing or loose part sounds.

Check to see if you have frost on the back panel of your freezer in your fridge. If you do your coil is frozen over and you'll have to defrost your freezer. I just did mine cause mine wasn't cooling properly on my fridge side.

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.
Testimonial: "It was the compressor. Bought a new Amana and it's great! Hate Sears still;)"
SOURCE: FRIDGE NOT COOLING
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper)
between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through
it. There is a flap you adjust with the
fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the
fridge temp ..
Your damper and controls are on this diagram. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=MFD2560HES&productCategoryId=0161000&brandId=3048&modelName=MAYTAG-REFRIGERATION&diagramPageId=00006&componentDescription=CONTROLS&documentId=M0412077&backToLink=Return%20to%20Sub%20Components%20list

For those who had the control board replaced or are experiencing thefrig side warming while the freezer side continues freezing; Theproblem may (still) be a faulty control board. I fixed the issue byreplacing a $1.00 capacitor on the board. I'm not a techy and it wasn'ttoo difficult to solder. More info on what to do here; DIY Chatroom
I use a pump pressure garden sprayer with hot water to defrost the coils. Gets the job done in 20 minutes and I don't have to worry about defrosting items in the freezer.
