Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

Limited connectivity I recently connected a router to my computer. I will be able to connect to the internet for a couple of hours then i lose connection on both my laptop and desktop. desk top says it can't find the server and the laptop has a strong signal from laptop to router but no internet. if i reinstall the router then i get a connection on both again for a limited time. I think the problem is between my router and desktop. I have AVG antivirus and the router is set up for WPA personal and my laptop has Norton. Any advise would be helpful.

No connection, cant install the software

You said that when you connect the computer to the modem, you get limited or no connectivity. make sure that your computer will be able to go online when you connect it the modem directly.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the router ad the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Normally this means that you have to update the firmware of the router. If you just recently purchased it you can call 8003267114 so that linksys can walk you through the upgrade. If your not under warranty message me and ill give you a walkthrough.

Wireless routers can operate at the same exact frequency as cordless phones. Try switching to another frequency in the router configuration.

Losing connection

Try to play first directly to the modem and check if it does the same problem coz maybe it's just your modem dropping the connection..

Istall a good firewall! Sounds like spyware to me, probably something blocking new connection leaving the computer. You can try downloading ZoneAlarm at www.download.com, also try runnig asome anti spyware progs like spybot-search&destroy and Lavasoft's adaware good Luck
