No connection, cant install the software

Try to unplug the power cable of your router for a minute or 2 to re-establish its connection to server. Then try reconnecting to your home network.

You will have to start the configuration from the wired network rather than the wireless network. Connect the computer directly to the router. I am assuming you might be trying to configure the router from the wireless network. Then use the installation CD to configure the router

Keeping others from connecting to your router:
1. Have an "wired only" router login access or for this router "change and disable your SSID". This way you avoid that others can login to
to the router changing your settings: See page 48 of the manual.
1.1 Wireless Network Name (SSID): change the default name SMC
to "any private name" ( and remember for later login )
1.2 Broadcast Wireless Network Name: change from default ENABLE
to DISABLE .

2. Make a secure wireless encryption key for your connection:
see page 87.
2.1 For most secure key select WPA / WPA2 only and SAVE SETTINGS .
2.2 See page 91 for entering and saving your secure key: the password
that must be entered to get access to the router.

Are you trying to configure the router wirelessly. Connect your computer to the router with a lan cable and then access the router and change its wireless settings. since you cannot change the wireless settings wirelessly as you will get disconnected.

Sounds like you may be having an issue with software already installed on the laptop to control the wireless connection. Many laptops have preinstalled software for their internal wireless devices. You should consult your manual about configuring and saving passwords for a network for that particular device. Typically you will need to enter the WEP key in the software itself.

Most hardware like an Network Adaptor you install the software CD 1st. Then plug in the hardware.

Then if you configured wireless (wifi, 802.11) settings on your SMC - you should fine the network NAME when you try to connect. You will be asked for the security key for WEP or WPA or WPA2 that you used in the SMC.

SMC should... then assign IP Settings automatically. If the SMC has Internet, you should have Internet.

You need to setup security on the laptop/access point. Apparently it has been setup in the router.

It shows that your wireless router and wireless adapters are both working. One thing to try is changing your wireless channel. Since you are already using 11, try maybe 1 or 9. Check if your SMC adapter will pick up the wireless signal.

By the way, how far is your computer (using the SMC adapter) to your wireless router?

If you know the part number of your router, you can download needed utilities from this site.

I assume they told you to uninstall the software, remove the adapter, then re install driver an re insert adapter, as this normally cures the driver fault. If they didn't try that, if the problem persists the adapter may be faulty although i think it's a software problem. Try not to use Windows to repair connection as it never works and resets your pc's ip address differently than your routers already given it.
